Well, most everyone on here knows how I feel about Trump. That being said, after thinking about it, I am actually am OK with this deal.
One of my biggest pet peeves is folks that know they are wrong just keeping on being wrong out of some sense of pride or unwillingness to admit they are wrong. The sports analigy is that when you make a bad play, you don't let THAT play cause more bad plays. Now everyone knows, Trump is going to sell this peace deal as the best deal ever made in the history of deal making or failing that, blame it on someone else (Vance springs to mind). But in hind sight and looking at this deal, I think anyone but the most unreasonable Trump supporters will admit that this war with Iran doesn't look like a win for the US.
The US agreed to $300 Billion in other people's money be paid to Iran to fix the damage caused by the war (how many pallets is that)?
All sanctions against Iran are lifted and all frozen funds are unfrozen.
Iran agrees to not ever have nuclear weapons, which is good, but NO RULES ON INSPECTIONS... all that is to be negotiated later. Remember that Trump pulled us out of a deal where there we had UN, US, and Israel inspectors doing their work already to keep this from happening. So I guess that we just trust the "Death to America" government to do what they say they are going to do?
Iran agrees to open the straight (again, that's a good thing, but remember that before the war, the straight was open) and not charge people for its use in the short term, but Oman and other gulf states (including Iran) will decide on this long term. Note that the US doesn't have a seat at that table.
All fighting will stop including Israel's fight in Lebanon.
Wow. That's solid work by the Iranians. They HAVE to be happy.
BUT, Trump and company started this war. And they started it being lead by a POTUS that has never worn a uniform and a Sec of War that's never led anything larger than a company of troops. That's actually OK because we have a military leadership with decades of experience doing this sort of planning, but they also selectively removed anyone in top leadership positions in our armed forces that didn't agree with them politically. So the planners of this war had no experience in planning at this scale. Unsurprisingly it didn't work out.
And to give Trump and company credit, they know it, and they didn't do like most of our past leadership has done. Just keep banging our heads against that wall, spending trillions of dollars and ending up in the same place as we are now. At least Trump is cutting and running and avoiding another forever war. So hats off to him for that. At least when you F up on a huge scale like this, cut your losses ASAP (and claim victory as only Trump can).
