A cool, breezy day in the east. Got a morning run in and am easing into the work day.

I can't explain it, but I've gotten pulled into the World Cup. I barely give soccer a thought for four years but this event captures my imagination every time. The drama in that Netherlands - Japan match was off the charts. The Brazil - Morocco match was two entirely different styles on display, and watching Morocco hang with the crazy individual talent, but somewhat undisciplined approach of Brazil was entertaining. And both those games ended in low-scoring ties I'd normally find boring as hell. I just get drawn in by the atmosphere, the fans and the high stakes.

Back to work. Hope you all have a great day.

Week seven of the racing season is in the books......The winds haven't been favorable for my birds not one time this season........I won two premiums but my best finish was 11th.........the flyers on the east side have had a heyday this season....the winds have pushed the birds over there every race......this finishes my season as I am not flying the 500 mile race. The two birds that I had planned on flying were late coming home........they need more than five days training/rest for a race of this length.......I'll save my bullets for another gun fight......it is time for me to start training the babies.....You folks take it easy.......BBK.....don't tear into the retirement thing.........you have all the time in the world now......you have to learn to space your projects out as to look busy all the time!

Morocco doesn't hang with anyone. Finished 4th in last WC. Ranked 7th in FIFA rankings of national teams. US is 17th.

HAHA, I wish brother Pidge (I know I changed your name),

All I am doing now is being nearly dictated to me to finalize a lot of areas I have particpated in for a lot of years. When I retired, I not only retired as a federal civilian, I was a DOD fed that takes some transitions in some areas, I also ran a couple businesses and also partnered in a couple to where I had to "finalize" commitments... Don't EVER think I am complaining as God has been SO good to me... (Also had several medical appointments that caused other medical appointments to ensure what was detected in a few areas.)

Oh, my daughters and grandchildren too.... (Never a burden but busy oh yes...) Again, I am thankful...

Except for some packing we are ready to leave in the morning (If the Lord doesn't take me home.) for Newberry Florida to my son and other grandchildren we have not seen in person for a few years. I cleaned the car better than it has been since it was new.. For My Darling...

We have our one granddaughter here now who kept us from leaving Saturday or Sunday but no issues... Sure wanted to see brother ATXC but will miss him by a few days but I am going to call him once we get in the area in Shawnee TN.... Will stop by the Gap as well and I will share some pics when we return but maybe too during the trip since it is easier to do that now...

To All;

Have a Christ blessed day AND, love someone who isn't expecting it. (YOU deserve it!)

Attended father's family picnic in Highland Heights yesterday. Began with my grandparents and their surviving 5 children's children - my first cousins - in the 1950's. Well, today the elders are the surviving cousins, 12/14. Half made it. I'm in the middle back. Good looking, eh?

Anyway, there were 60-75 of us there. I knew about 20-25 as there were so many grandkids & even great-grandkids of the cousins as well as boyfriends & girlfriends I had no clue who they were. Stormed around 5p which broke the thing up early. Don't know how many more times it will happen.

Morning D-Leaguers!

Cooler morning this morning then normal. 66° with light winds and sunny skies expected.

Have been helping neighbor renovate apartment he owns for his stepdaughter last week and again yesterday and will continue helping tomorrow. Taking the day off today to cut grass and go shopping afterwards for an anniversary present and card because... it is today. 26 years. Procrastination is a terrible thing.

So, monster walk, exercise, cut grass, end procrastination card and gift buying, and get a dinner ready. Full day ahead so full speed ahead.

You folks have a blessed day and may God be with you and protect you and yours.

Good morning folks. Back downtown in DC on the job. A beautiful, cool, clear day in the east.

Cord, I've been trying to find the time to catch up with the Hanks' World War 2 series. I figured it would be good. Hanks is certainly committed to keeping the memory of that generation alive dating back to at least Saving Private Ryan. I actually met him, and interviewed him at the dedication of the World War 2 Memorial on the National Mall in 2004. He came across as a nice guy, for what that is worth.

Back to work -- but just past one of our typical deadline pushes, so the pressure is off for a while. Hope you all are having a relaxing day.

Hump Day! (normally if not for the holiday)

Back to work on the neighbor's apartment for stepdaughter. Crazy stuff here as the apartment is adjacent to the house that his wife bought in Cyril Ok. for her mother. His wife also bought a house in Geronimo OK for her sister who like their mother moved from Chicago to get away from there (really because they were not working and needed a place to live and his wife makes good money). Drives him crazy, but it is her money so... They also bought a house in OKC for his stepdaughter because she was living and working there but was fired from 3 jobs and is now back home living with them so, he is renovating the apartment to move her out. Now they have to sell the house in OKC.

Well, enough of that, you guys be safe out there and May God Bless you all.

Hello All,

From Newberry, Florida…

At my sons house about 9:30 last night.

Had a fine “reunion”.

My Darling is stirring, I am not yet. My grandbabies are here and so is Papa or G-Pa ….. Lots to do today, I am thankful.

Give your family your love without expectations. Your time will come…..

Good morning folks. Laboring away...

Intriguing posts on Rafters that suggest Kentucky may be adding a Euro superstar to the basketball roster. Bring it on. With the new AD, the revived recruiting success illustrated by Momcilovic and Hampton, it feels like a return to the rightful place at the pinnacle of the sport is becoming not just possible but palpable.

Beautiful weather holding in the east. My wife is heading out tonight for a visit to London and Lisbon, then to the Portugal coast. She has an Irish cousin who has a place in Porto. She got tired of waiting for me to take off work and go with, so is meeting up with her cousin in London and traveling with her. I regret missing out, just to grind through another couple work weeks already...

Hope you all have a great day.

55, I’ve watched it all except the one about the Jewish people, just couldn’t watch. We’ve enjoyed watching the series! One thing I learned was, the Japanese soldiers were brutal! From what I gathered, the abuse started with the commanders and filtered down, that’s how they were taught

That sounds good Cord. My wife is gone for a week. She's no big fan of my history documentary watching, so I'll have a chance to catch up in her absence, including with this series.

Good morning folks. Gloomy with a light rain in the east. Fits my mood. A favorite work coleague is retiring and we're sending him off with a swanky lunch, but he'll be missed. He told me he wanted to "get out and do the things I've been putting off while I'm young enough." Okay. But he's five years younger than me. One of us hasn't figured this out yet. Gee, I hope it isn't me.

Already Thursday. Got some plans with my daughter this weekend, a nice long drive through some historic towns in the Shenandoah mountains. Hope you all have a great day.

Hello All,

I am hiding out in “our” room. My son works from home mostly but does go in sometimes.

My Darling is cooking. My grandchildren completely love the food. Had beef ribs for supper yesterday. We are well engaged and I am thankful.

I bought my two oldest grand children laptops and spent yesterday setting them up with them.

I plan on doing some metal detecting with them at some point.

Lots to do, take it on and …do it. Have a day that will allow you to do it…

The Cards signed Joshua Baez for a nice bonus when he was 18. He started out slow, but has come on strong last year and this year. Baseball Reference has him listed at 6'3 and 220. Plays all 3 OF positions. Strikes out a lot is the big question.
I am sorry......I made that statement tongue in cheek.....when I was a sports fan, it seemed like that in the later years........old Marge would trade/sell off every good player that came through the club.......I didn't like free agency when it was started and still think that it messed up a really good system. Time to get off my stump......I would like to do away with NIL while I am at it.......money taints everything!

Agree. I guess a player (entertainer) is worth whatever the market will bear, but it detracts from the game in many ways to the detriment of the sport in the long run.

Md, a 20 miles river walk trail is planned from Ludlow (Devou Park) in NW to Silver Grove/Melbourne in SE. Fair amount is done Ludlow to Dayton. Long ways to close to finish. How they'll keep a trail up from Dayton to SG thru Ft. Thomas seems a real stretch (PI) given Mary Ingles keeps sliding into the river now and it's narrow a space as can be - as you well know.

I think baseball expansion watered down the majors. Everything else evolved from it. I watch an inning or two here and there and the minors would have kicked you out for what the majors accept today. (General play-making)

Anyway, just got back from Sam’s Club. My Darling loaded up on some meats of different sorts, bought ice cream for the grand babies. Got my son a set of new tires for his suv. (Asked him first. Can’t touch a mans car without permission. He said I didn’t have to which means. Thanks Dad, go ahead…) 🤑

Once the sun goes down more, will break out the metal detector…. Have a restful evening….

Going to play ball tonight in Chickasha OK, starting with a different team in this league, The Alchoballics. Played a couple of pre-season tourneys with them and they are not as good as the team I played with in Lawton so... may struggle to get some wins with this one.

Little tired too as I continue working on my neighbors apt. Started at 8am this morning and quit at 1pm today so I could get some rest for the games. Did get about an hour nap a while ago so I should be rested enough. Will go back to working on the apt. early tomorrow morning for about half the day again as wife has tomorrow off and will want to go somewhere.

@BBUK I am getting as busy as you lately. Man, retirement is supposed to be easy.

Thanks VH. I've been seeing a sign alleging that was happening for a few years now on my visits to the Grove, but no indications of any progress on that end. It'd be nice to have some sort of trail along the river, past the old Coney ferry and down toward Dayton.

As you know, the Grove's town council sold the town's future away for that monstrosity of a drywall plant that used to be owned by LaFarge. When CSX (C&O) was pulling out all those years ago, the town should have negotiated a deal with them to spend a little money and turn that area into a nice park along the Ohio. They had to clean it all up as an environmental hazard anyway. It would have been a terrific addition to the town, made it more attractive for families starting out who wanted work access to Cincinnati or NKU or wherever. Just a dumbass short sighted decision in my mind -- but then, I haven't lived there full time since 1977, and the people who have stayed since we were kids don't seem to see it that way.

There's a logical place to end it just a mile or so east of Melbourne at Pendery Park down along the river, which is a fairly nice, sprawling part area with baseball fields and a couple soccer pitches and at a half mile running track around it. After that you are in the sticks until Augusta.

True, but baseball is falling in stature as a sport. It costs so much for a family to go these days (especially with eats and drinks included). There is more competition for interest now with other sports and entertainment options that did not exist in baseball's heyday. When I was a kid, there was a class D minor league team when TV came to our area. People started staying home to watch I Love Lucy (etc) and attendance fell drastically, causing the team and league to fold.

Btw I got to play a few games in the stadium over the years. It was a fantastic feeling to just walk on that field. It was as big as a MLB stadium except for seating.

We won both games last night. The first one was a blow out, but I don't know by how much (did not check score). There was a woman there for the first team who looked rather old, found out she is 72. She and I discussed how fun it was just to still be out there playing.

Second game was close. We were the home team, and the score was tied 14-14 in the bottom of the 7th with me on deck no outs. The guy before me hit the ball deep in between the right field and middle right. He was a speedster so, he made it home for an in the park home run to end the game.

Funny. Trail is intended to end at Pendry. I didn't mention it as I didn't know that you'd recognize the name/location given it's relatively recent installation 30? 40? years. Of course they could have ended it at St. Anne's Convent of Rainman fame. :)

That IS funny. I was just trying to imagine the end of it, and it popped into my head.

A couple of my nephews played Little League at Pendery 15 years ago or so, so I'd take my kids there on Saturdays when I was visiting home. I also got in a habit of getting up very early on visits to my parents, and going out to Pendery to run 4-5 miles on the track there before anyone else showed up. It's a pretty impressive park for the middle of nowhere, and nice views of the rever and the hills on the Ohio side.

In other business, just working away. Glad it is Friday. My wife is in Portugal with friends so I'm Home Alone, like the dopey, delinquent kid I still feel like in my uncommon days of being by myself.

Hope you all have a good weekend.

Good morning from ATX. Warm. Excessive heat warning in effect.

Still untreated / un-evaluated since rear-ended last Thu afternoon. Hope to to schedule a Doctor visit tomorrow through injury attorney.

Wife condition improving. She's eating again.

Wish y'all a peaceful Sunday.
