Heels finished at #19 in Volleyball this past season. Ranked as high as #15. I think Schall has the program in the right direction, and didn't lose any players to the portal.
We were one of only a couple teams in the top 25 to not lose a single player in the portal. The replacement assistant coaches are a little suspect though.

Forum message board, the post lists two assistantncoaches we have interviewed. I think you should have access if you have an On3 subscription.

We have a pitching coach: Laurin Watts.

From her bio at Southern Illinois:

Southern Illinois had one of the conference's top pitching staffs in 2026 under Watts, finishing the season with a team ERA of 2.91. This ranked second in the league. Against Valley opponents, SIU's ERA was 2.11, also ranking second in the MVC. Two pitchers received All-Conference recognition at the end of the year as Brooklynn Danielson was named the MVC Freshman of the Year and earned a spot on the All-MVC First Team, while Emily Delgado was named the MVC Newcomer of the Year.

In her first season in the role, the SIU pitching staff had the second-best team ERA in the MVC at 3.18. Southern Illinois won its second consecutive MVC regular season championship in 2025.

"We have been anticipating this big announcement for a while now and I'm so glad we were able to get Laurin on board with us here at Saluki Softball," Sewell said. "Laurin is one of the top up-and-coming pitching coaches in the country. Her name just kept coming up every time I asked about who is the next big pitching hire."

The competition in the MVC isn't the ACC, Big 10, SEC, etc., but here are some numbers from the SIU team this year:

The main thing that was needed IMO was the pitching coach. Lauren seems to fill all of the boxes in that department. We have at least 5 pitchers on our team may be more. We had three freshman pitchers who did not see any action or very little action this past season. If Brooklyn Danielson were to follow her coach and come to UNC that would be a great addition; however, I know she is probably going for the money and that is probably why she is eyeing some of the SEC schools.

Her 3.76 GPA gives me a little hope. Not a lot, but at least something besides having her coach to grasp at. Plus she can get all the starts she desires at this point...

She appears to be following Corey Lyon on social... but she's also following the Oregon HC and pitching coach, the Arkansas HC, the Mississippi State pitching coach, and a smattering of others. MSL isn't following her - which is sort of a sign usually... you can usually see the targets based on her follow list.

I'd love to hope she'll entertain coming to UNC now that Watts is here - if she even liked working with Watts... she went into the portal a few weeks ago. So, who knows that either.

I hope she will at least come and visit UNC. I would love to have her in Carolina blue. Since MSL is married to CL there is no need for both of them to follow her. As far as we know, MSL could have told her husband to stay in contact with her since she is following him, and with Watts being on staff, I would think this has to count for something. Bottom line, her stats were not have been what were last season if it was not for Watts. This has to count for something IMO.

MSL is now following Brooklyn Danielson. She’s not following back yet.

Other uncommitted follows in the transfer portal below. Assume pitchers and OF are only ones left. We already pulled in a C/IF and an IF.

Ariel Redmond (OF; Houston)
Mary Peyton Hodge (LHP; Arizona State)
Dakota Redmon (RHP; Radford; Big South Pitcher of the Year)
Hailey Lucas (RHP; Southern Illinois)
Lexie Hames (RHP; Clemson; 18U NT; Committed to Ole Miss)
Alex Rossi (LHP; Boston College)
Lauren Soeken (RHP; LSU)
Kyla Stroud (IF; Auburn; committed to GT)
Ashtyn Reichardt (OF; Arkansas)
Jana Want (IF; MTSU; CUSA POY; Team Canada; committed to Mizzou)
Cameryn Harrison (RHP; Arkansas; Committed to Arizona State)
Ashtyn Reinhardt (OF; Arkansas; committed to Utah)
Hannah Christian (OF; Southern Miss; committed to Kentucky)
Elle McCloskey (IF; OK State)

MSL also not following Brooklyn Danielson anymore… seems odd cause she’s still following others who have committed elsewhere. May not mean anything…

edit: now following Jacey Schuyler: RHP at Michigan State and Kendall Trimm from UCF.

I think that is a great addition from the transfer portal. I hope our new pitching coach can get our pitching up to par. It is going to be very interesting to see how our pitching will be next season. I think we got some good ones that came in last year as freshmen, but they did not play much along with the upperclassmen that are coming back that did play a ton.

Seems like it's Bri Godfrey (She RT'd the announcement and is in the portal), who started at Marshall, transferred to Maryland, and is a grad transfer. She's a RHP/UTIL.

Her numbers aren't really exciting. A career 4.93 ERA over two seasons and a .071 career batting average.

Played for Coach at Marshall in '23.
