Thought I'd post this for nostalgia's sake. In its final form, it was the focal point of Beaver Stadium for 50-60 years. Very few living Penn State fans knew of a time when the big grey battleship wasn't looming over the bleachers. I felt a bit of sadness as it was falling but when it hit the ground, I thought "Finally!!" I'm looking forward to seeing the completed renovations.

And you know this how because that alternative was never presented? Do you know what the plans are for the remainder of the stadium?

What do you call it when an organization's CFO won't (or maybe can't) do an NPV calculation? Pathetic seems like a pretty good adjective.

Something needed to be done with Beaver Stadium. Whether the current project was the best solution remains an open question.
Given our BOT's reputation for honesty, competence, and transparency there is no need to ask questions.

Because they are spending all those millions on a facility that gets used seven times a year and has nothing whatsoever to do with what is supposed to be the core mission of the University,

Yeah, others are doing the same stupid thing- that's not a justification.

7x a year x 100,000 people. Add in a multi billion dollar tv deal.

Nitt is probably an educator. Educators only care about lining their own pockets regardless of education results.

I think a part of of the press box might have been older than that.

Penn State has "a multi billion dollar tv deal?" You could say that, maybe over 25-30 years.

If educators "only care about lining their own pockets" then most of them have chosen the wrong profession.

yes it was common knowledge that stadium had issues if you listen to stuff here. Also been confirmed by others here. There are plans for the other side, but they are contingent on revenue growth from current revocation. Which Nate indicated was questionable. He also said big donations exceeded expectations.

It’s the University that bungled the JF situation and you expect full disclosure. Current leadership is far better than the previous 3-4 and has to fix their mistakes. You choose your words…

We agree on this and at some point you need to just trust the best decision was made. Populous has a great reputation. PSU admin does not typically work with athletics at PSU, there is a real arrogance towards athletics, that likely adds to you second paragraph. I doubt the other side happens unless the clubs areas sell out.

I acknowledged and no one disputes that the stadium had structural issues that needed to be addressed. They presented two alternatives: 1) doing all of the "deferred maintenance" which showed nothing but cost/negative cash flow; and 2) the current project with additional revenue streams. Were there no other alternatives? How about a complete stadium renovation/rebuild? If that wasn't feasible, at least go through the exercise of preesnting numbers to prove it. It is the fiduciary duty of the BoT and administration to do so.

The "JF situation? " If you mean the firing of Big Game, that was after the stadium project was approved. And how is that an excuse or explanation for Penn State's CFO not to do an NPV calculation? Or maybe they did and they didn't like how the numbers came out (which is a good probability IIRC their net cash flow estimate).

Choose my words....... you just remember this conversation if the powers that be bungled their fiduciary duties and the University winds up on the hook for big dollars because the Athletic Department can't generate enough cash flow to service/ extinguish the debt.

Populous designs stadiums and assists in planning their construction and estimating cost It has little to no input in how it's paid for.

Don't know about the intramural conflicts that exist at Penn State. But the University CFO, not Kraft or his financial guy, presented the numbers for the project. I see no political excuse for a proper analysis not to be done here.

The entire presentation - and the cradle to grave of the whole process - was fantastical. I am abundantly on the record with the many ways it was so.

The folks who approved the project were, at best, operating in the dark/with incomplete and misleading information. That is the best case scenario. Whether that was "despite their best efforts", or by design? Who knows?

Much more could (and has) been said, but it is what it is.

All the typical fan cares about, if anything - and, frankly, could be expected to care about - is "do I have a shiny new thing to look at".
Other folks have a responsibility to care about the "other stuff".
