There are a few older shut down plants that are being retro fitted to be brought back online and there’s been quite a bit of investment in newer and smaller nuclear plants across the country.
I figured it was older coal plants shutting down, and other forms growing. Interesting to see how it changes over time.
I listened to a book about Rudolph Diesel (very good), a lot of folks were real mad about that new technology when it came out.
I drove by there this week. It looks like the whole parking lot was either dug up and piled up or they're using it for dirt and crushed asphalt/concrete storage. As a nod to CatVet, when I was going by there were several police cars with their lights on surrounding a group of people

It wasn't that nuclear overtook it. It just declined slower than coal. I find it quite distressing that nuclear has not just failed to grow, it has declined over the past decade. We should be investing in nuclear like crazy.

Technology has improved. You certainly don't see people scared of the nuclear power at Grand Gulf. That thing has been in operation for years and years. My deceased uncle was a plumber at Grand Gulf and that wasn't yesterday either.

I have a friend who has worked there since before it opened and he has had no ill side effects. He says that the third eye he grew in the back of his head has been very useful.
I looked into putting a solar panel system this passed year. My POWER is so unreliable out here so I compared solar or a generator for outages. I could not justify the cost of solar.
The political climate could change the cost of electricity due to the wars but for now electricity is cheap as if up 16% since the start of the wars.
Even if it does go way up, it will come back down once the War ends and all the infrastructure gets back place. Lots of damage, may take a couple years to recover all of it but once everything opens back up and levels off, I will look at solar again.

I will say my cousin in Texas reduced his power bill by putting in a panel only system with no batteries. Stays hooked to grid, sells power in day and buys at night. His bill was $350-400 a month and went to 150-200 a month including his payment for system.

31 people died directly from Chernobyl. Probably a few thousand more indirectly from cancer. But the old Soviet Union complete disregard for safety was something that could never happen in the civilized world. That reactor was doomed frim the day it was built.
