Yea he definitely is there. Not sure what happened with him at McCort? He was at Sem before McCort. Wonder if the PIAA will try to block it. Hope not.

JoJo Burke’s sister is a PSU undergraduate student. Are we just so set in his projected weight that we have no interest? His dad was a 158lber (3rd at NCAA). Might he have growth potential into a weight class more suited to PSUs needs?

Freshman: 106, S1
Soph: 120, S2
Junior: ??
Senior: ??

Only time will tell what he'll weigh in college. Interestingly, he wrestled 60 kg (@132 lbs) to win the U17 World Team Trial in April.

And as a FWIW, Landon Sidun topped him, 12-0, in the '25 Powerade final, at 121.

I'm sure Cael will call him next summer. Where it goes from there, we'll see.

Will his sister still be at PSU in Fall 2028, when he would start classes? Asking because I'm not sure how much of a factor she would be in his decision, if at all. We've had other siblings on campus whose brothers committed elsewhere -- offhand: Verk committed to Iowa State with his brother at PSU. Also, Bennett Berge committed to South Dakota State while Brady was still at PSU (though IIRC they would've had no overlap).

are you sure O'Farrill didn't transfer to SC last school year?

(i'm not 100% sure but i think that might have been the case)
Willie, Great work as always. A couple of things I'd like to hear you elaborate on, maybe your next show with Basch. First, it looks like O'Farrill and Hutcherson have moved up from previous HS rankings. Two, any concerns with Sanchez taking some losses as he's moved up to 126 in CIF and U20s in freestyle.

Thanks

With Sidun and Sanchez both career 25s, U17 World teamer (knocked off PA and returning World Champ Keegan Bassett), Karenbauer, may be a better fit than Sanchez. 2x Powerade champ, PA 3rd as freshman, 1st as soph, only one career loss. Hammer on top and bonus point machine. Projects as 33/41
Been watching Karenbauer since middle school. He's a "light" version of Seidel. Similar build, similar game. Needs to get much better on his neutral game and attacks, but he is getting better every year. He'd be a nice pick up

Howard, O'Farrill, and Hutcherson I would think are locks for PSU?

Howard with the KD connection

Hutcherson trains at NLWC and would be a need at 184/197. Plus he just fits the PSU upper weight mold

O'Farrill transfered to State College but not sure if he would be eligible this year?

I don’t think Sanchez is a need with Sidun there. Sidun is the real deal
Not trying to be Debbie Downer but Blaze trained at Columbus rtc till he made his commitment. I dont know how often this happens either.

Based on the Mutarelli ruling transferring during your sophmore year is the same as transferring after it, maybe it would be different since O'Farrill never competed last year but I believe he has to sit
That plus Kunstek and Mutarelli getting a postseason suspension for transferring to their own beds.

That said, the rule is plain as day. You transfer, you sit out a postseason.

Guessing O'Farrill doesn't really care, has bigger goals than PIAA.

Oh the PIAA is a joke here. In District 3 ( i know personally of 3 kids that will be on their 3rd school in 3 years). All 3 went public - private - public (basketball). Cumberland Valley(football) lost both of their top 2 WR's , Top defensive backs, and starting RB ( all rising seniors, most going to McDevitt, one to Trinity, the other to prep). Its the wild wild west even at the HS level here in Central PA ha

Here in Utah, a handful of schools have traded spots literally buying all the top athletes in the state. Was Corner Canyon for a while and now it's Orem. All depends on who has the best current infrastructure to hook the kids up with NIL. It's almost unheard of now for a high school athlete with legitimate college attention to stay at the same school for 4yrs. NIL has had the exact same effect on high school sports as it has NCAA.

Meh... maybe they can find the right judge to over rule the PIAA. And if they really find the right judge, they can gamble on their own matches too... lol

Poster on the HR board speculating that Sanchez and O’Neill are both strong PSU leans and that Hutcherson will come down to PSU/Iowa likely in that order.

I wasn’t aware Sanchez is close with Nagao could definitely help the good guys.

Willie posted that about O'neill and Hutcherson. But you need to read it again he said he thinks Matty is in play for the Hawks

Sanchez at PSU feels like a weird fit ... obviously besides the fact he's very good at wrestling. We don't historically get a ton of kids from California out of HS and he'll almost certainly overlap with Sidun who is a career 125.

Don't get me wrong, he is absolutely a plus one type talent you gage his interest and as Cael says, if it's the right fit, they aren't hard to convince.

I agree with you i don't see it either. Hes close with Teske as well. Did Teske leave on good terms ?

Yes he did.

No hard feelings, he wanted to be closer to home and I think someone on here said they sat with his grandparents during the ASU dual and they said he was going through really tough times (lost a best friend and older mentor) and the coaches and team was so supportive of him during that time.

He remains RBY's close friend (was a groomsman at his wedding)

I always felt Sanchez was a better fit at Oklahoma State (though they're pretty set at 125 as well) .... or might as well stay in state and get that Stanford degree!

I don't necessarily see Sanchez coming to PSU, but I also wouldn't assume him and Sidun overlap. He went from 106 to 112 (U17 last year) to 120, still has 2yrs of high school left. He also looks, right now, to be a lot longer than Sidun. I'm not sure he's a college 125.

I would be shocked if Hutcherson isn't a Penn Stater.

Besides the obvious proximity to home and his familiarity with the coaches, Elijah Brown and him are very close friends/training partners and want to go to school together.

Wouldn't shock me either. Iowa wouldn't shock me either. I know he's been training at both

Does feel like the top of the 2028 class is filled with Penn state connections. Not sure how many they can add after the loaded 2027 class but they’re in a good position.

Sounds good, PSU shouldn't expect to get anyone in 2028, heard Cam Howard is an Ok State lean actually and is ready to buck the KD to PSU trend.
It's definitely on the table but Cael gets what he wants usually. He lost Ross and Jax so losing Cam wouldn't shock me with the logjam

Morgan McIntosh is still homesick.

That was me who sat beside his grandfather at the ASU match. Grandpa also said Brody was treated terrible at his Iowa visit. I was very surprised he transferred to the Hawkeyes. Yes, his best friend drowned and his pastor who he was close to was murdered. He was very homesick. I did not share this until after he left PSU. He left PSU on very good terms.

This staff learned in their first 7 or 8 years if an animal wants to come to PSU and you already have an animal at that perceived weight, let him in the door. It will work itself out.

Spare me. PSU gets as many national champs in 2-yr windows as Iowa has had over the past 15 yrs.

Over the same 15-yr span, Cornell has had 7 national champs. 7 > 6.🤷‍♂️
Point being teams have 20 guys who don't start and not everyone is a NCAA champ every year. You can win at many places these days and regardless of what you guys say Iowa is still one of them
