Correct. His best finish was third - the year he won the Gorriaran.Jerry Kelly was a big miss for me. I was thinking champions and do not think he ever got to the top of podium.
Whatis the % of wrestlers who won the Gorriaran that won the championship?Correct. His best finish was third - the year he won the Gorriaran.
I probably shouldn't argue with experts (especially at this hour) but he finished 2nd in 1980 when he had 3 falls. Along the way he defeated the #2 seed Byron McGlathery 12-0 and pinned the #3 seed Ricky Dellagatta from the #7 seed. Losing to #1 John Azevedo 17-9.Correct. His best finish was third - the year he won the Gorriaran.
It is always best to argue when you are correct. Good catch.I probably shouldn't argue with experts (especially at this hour) but he finished 2nd in 1980 when he had 3 falls. Along the way he defeated the #2 seed Byron McGlathery 12-0 and pinned the #3 seed Ricky Dellagatta from the #7 seed. Losing to #1 John Azevedo 17-9.
Kelly did have 4 falls for the Gorriaran in 1981 when he finished 3th from the #4 seed. He had a good chance to make the finals when #1 Derek Glenn (OU) was upset in the first round but he (Kelly) was upset by Dave Cooke (#8, NC) 6-5 in the semi's.
Agreed but his chart shows the winners still averaged more.It makes sense that the wrestler that wins 3rd would have more falls. Consolation wrestlers have lots of injuries and they will go aggressive and get thrown to their backs.
I don't know if it has as much to do with injury as it has to do with opportunity. Third place wrestlers get more matches than first place wrestlers. It makes sense that the wrestler that wins 3rd would have more falls. Consolation wrestlers have lots of injuries and they will go aggressive and get thrown to their backs.
Over the past ten tournaments it is almost identical. 306 for the championship side vs 308 for the consolation side.I think both are a factor. There seems to be more falls in the consolation rounds than championship brackets.
