Glad we know
the G D
Words
I think it was while I was there (late 80s/early 90s) that they first began putting the G D words up on the scoreboard so students would sing the right ones :) (they also for a while had a Crystal Pepsi ad up there 🙄)

Does anyone know what era it was that they changed this portion:

Thou didst mold us, Dear Old State
Into Men, Into Men

into this?

Thou didst mold us, Dear Old State
Dear Old State, Dear Old State

I kinda recall this happening at the tail end of my time at PSU, 1977. Someone will nail that down, I’m sure.

In 1975, Penn State revised the lyric "molder of men" to "molder of men (and women)" in the popular spirit song The Nittany Lion. This change was introduced to make the lyrics gender-neutral in honor of International Women's Year.

Probably right after they stopped serving Rolling Rock at The Skeller!

Thanks Zeno! I had forgotten those lyrics in The Nittany Lion, which I believe were themselves always a reference to the lyrics of the Alma Mater.

So I wonder if the Alma Mater and The Nittany Lion both had their lyrics altered in 1975. No doubt the reason for each change was the same.
