In fairness the MAGA socialist in the oval has handed out tons of money to farming welfare babies over his 5+ years in office. There are several voting blocks - farmers, veterans, union workers, for example, that consistently vote Republican which is absolutely baffling. Republicans do nothing to help these groups. Basically never.
It's a good point. Voting for terrible governance confirms your opinions.Has it ever crossed your mind that not all voting groups look towards the government for help?
More of the "both sides do it" stuff from you, Ned. Even when it is not factually supported. I'm not a Graham Platner fan, but Donald Trump has FAR more baggage than Plattner. 34 criminal convictions, a stupefying record of grifting. a ginormous collection of lies and outrageous statements made in public and largely on camera. Plattner has very little of that. They are hardly comparable.you know the comments these days about voting for Platner in Maine..."hold your nose and vote for him"...A lot of trump voters felt exactly that way in the last election. Sure, the Republican base would vote for him, but independents just didn't want Kamala Harris as President. IMO, a better democrat candidate beats trump in 2024
Realistically Platner has no more baggage than someone like John McCain. Also realistically this is mostly just Republicans getting desperate because Trump is leading America off a cliff.More of the "both sides do it" stuff from you, Ned. If China slashes importing oil they will also slash exporting everything they make. Which means a lot more inflation.
well, I'll agree with your statement that the "crimes" are not comparable...but the principles are... you guys have berated folks for voting for trump because of his faults...but are willing to overlook faults of a Democrat candidate.More of the "both sides do it" stuff from you, Ned. So what was pointed out by sonny hostin, no less, is that Platner is a liar, racist and anti semite...and later pointed out a subscriber to kik, an abuser to an ex girlfriend.
so, lets just compare Platner on his own merits....this is the person democrats are behind...but he doesn't have as much baggage as trump...but he might help Democrats win the Senate....so we can compare his faults against trump and that makes him the candidate I'll support. and you're taking a position that this is different from what republicans did in electing trump? OK.
Brah, do you even newsmaxx??!Platner's a racist and anti-semite? Dude has warts, but that's news to me
oh I agree about living with choices. That's the point I was trying to make about health insurance...if you were part of that thread. Everyone has options, they make decisions, they live with their choices.Ned, I will not be voting for Platner today. Period. Full stop.
Unlike you, I have morals and principles, and I cannot vote for a dirtbag. You'll have to live with your choices, Ned.
those were the descriptions given by that great conservative Sonny hostin on the view. I'm just repeating the words.Platner's a racist and anti-semite? Dude has warts, but that's news to me
Bibi telling trump to eat ****?
Kill people for OIL!!!!!!Good. So tired of this "we almost have a deal" BS. Do something. The straight needs to be reopened. trump needs to clean up the mess he caused.
you're not aloneGood. So tired of this "we almost have a deal" BS. Do something. The straight needs to be reopened. trump needs to clean up the mess he caused.

then we better be ready to surrender. These people aren't going anywhere. Or are you advocating for mass bombings and casualties.I'm not advocating for the bombing of civilians, but whether you like it or not, we are in a war. Iran is doing everything it can to inflict maximum harm on us, the American people. We need to take some action to get this **** over with.
I don't even necessarily agree with us doing this in the first place, but now we're in it. The disruption of oil and fertilizer supplies will cause massive hunger, starvation, and major issues worldwide.
You mean, like a school?I'm not advocating for the bombing of civilians, but whether you like it or not, we are in a war. Iran is doing everything it can to inflict maximum harm on us, the American people. We need to take some action to get this **** over with.

Well said. These people aren't going anywhere.
I get that, but it annoying as hell that Platner decided to run with those skeletons in his closet. This gives Maine voters a chance to screw things up yet again and vote for that hypocrite and Trump camp follower, Susan Collins. Someone should have vetted this candidate a little more thoroughly. At this point, I'm wondering whether it might not be better, for Democrats' interests, to switch to Janet Mills. She's still on the ballot, and has probably been receiving overtures to declare that she's back in the race.Realistically Platner has no more baggage than someone like John McCain. Also realistically this is mostly just Republicans getting desperate because Trump is leading America off a cliff.
Ned: In answer to your question, yes, Platner's baggage in no way compares to Trump's. To say it's not close is an understatement.well, I'll agree with your statement that the "crimes" are not comparable...but the principles are... you guys have berated folks for voting for trump because of his faults...but are willing to overlook faults of a Democrat candidate.

We're in one hell of a messy predicament right now. We have to get out of it somehow, and we have to do it soon, or we could end up in a recession at minimum. We need to make the status quo intolerable for Iranian leadership, and if there is some way (short of bombing) to do that, I'm all ears. I cannot think of it. So, although I didn't like it that Trump started this war in the first place, I tend to agree with nytigerfan. Let's make life even more miserable for Iranians and, while we're at it, let's continue destroying their missile stockpile and means of delivering missiles. Let's also bomb the crap out of the Iranian installations along the Strait of Hormuz.then we better be ready to surrender. These people aren't going anywhere. Or are you advocating for mass bombings and casualties.

I realize that, so surrender then?At least read what I wrote before you reply. The very first line was "I'm not advocating for the bombing of civilians".
Couple things.I'm not advocating for the bombing of civilians, but whether you like it or not, we are in a war. Iran is doing everything it can to inflict maximum harm on us, the American people. We need to take some action to get this **** over with.

Bear, all that about the past might fall into the case of whataboutism, which I know from past posts you don't like.Ned: In answer to your question, yes, Platner's baggage in no way compares to Trump's. To say it's not close is an understatement.
Moreover, Democrats have pushed prior Democratic politicians to the sidelines for FAR less than what Trump has done. Remember former Minnesota Senator Al Franken? How about former Congressman Eric Swalwell? How about former Congressman Anthony Wiener (aka "Carlos Danger")? Those are just three Democrats off the top of my head.
Who has Republican leadership pushed out? Former Congressman George Santos is all I can think of. And he was expelled from Congress only after he refused to resign, with Trump later commuting his sentence. That idiot and pedophile from Florida, Matt Gaetz, resigned of his own volition after Trump nominated him for Attorney General. I wish I could say that I'm kidding about that.
I essentially agree you as to the principle at play here. If we are supporting our flawed candidate for purposes of political expediency, it is a bit hypocritical to criticize you for doing the same thing. Where we part company is, to use your term, degrees of "flawness." Platner is flawed, and I am disquieted about supporting him. So much so that I won't be disappointed if Maine Democratic voters shift their allegiance to Janet Mills.Bear, all that about the past might fall into the case of whataboutism, which I know from past posts you don't like.
I could give a big rats about Platner and if every democrat in America endorses him. But the fact remains, he is a flawed, flawed candidate. And in comparing flaws, right now we're talking degrees of "flawless". I just think it's kind of hypocritical for people of either party to have blasted others for doing what Platner has done or been accused of doing, and now all of sudden, because he's their party's candidate, all of those things are OK..
But that's Ok. I think you're a rational person, in spite of what hotshoe thinks, and I know I won't change your mind.
well now we're debating degrees of political expediency. What is clear to me, but not to a lot on the left, is that political expediancy is what got trump elected this second term. People were tired of the high inflation, open borders, trans issue, etc during the Biden admin. And yes I know, and agree, that not all of these things were Biden's fault, just like the $40 trillion debt isn't all Trump's fault. But voters wanted a change and Kamala promised 4 more years of Biden policies.I essentially agree you as to the principle at play If we are supporting our flawed candidate for purposes of political expediency, it is a bit hypocritical to criticize you for doing the same thing. Where we part company is, to use your term, degrees of "flawness." Platner is flawed, and I am disquieted about supporting him. So much so that I won't be disappointed if Maine Democratic voters shift their allegiance to Janet Mills. But as much as I think Platner has flaws, the much more important objective is getting control of the Senate (and with it, the process of confirming judicial and executive branch nominees, controlling the prosecution of impeachment proceedings, and otherwise controlling one of the two houses of Congress and putting a complete and total brake on Trump's legislative program. In addition, the degree of "flawness" demonstrated by Trump is so FAR greater than that demonstrated by Platner that the hypocrisy in ignoring such "flawness" for political expediency is significantly greater on your side.
Hang in there tiger. Just because this was forced upon you by another country, with zero value add to your life, doesn't mean it wasn't a fantastic idea 100 days ago.I'm not advocating for the bombing of civilians, but whether you like it or not, we are in a war. Iran is doing everything it can to inflict maximum harm on us, the American people. We need to take some action to get this **** over with.
