What does Jamal Crawford bring to the table for UK?

How do you think he'll add to our team?

Some coaches bring in ties to recruits, and some specialize in offense and defense philosophies. Who was the guy Donovan brought in for defense. Larry something?
He brings in a world of knowledge, he should be about as good as you could find to teach point guards how to play at the highest level as well. He’s still young and has a National reputation with the younger players coming up on the AAU circuit, it should help tremendously with recruiting.

I mean the parents of these kids know him and they know his son is one of the best in all of high school basketball already. That shows he’s a great teacher and he’s also a great Dad. Who wouldn’t love to send their son to play basketball here with Him, Mo Williams, who’s also a wonderful father, has raised a great young man and a awesome Basketball player with a bright future. That’s a lot of Basketball knowledge from those guys and Mark is also a wonderful father and teacher of the game. It’s a no brainer in my opinion. Jamal is very connected in the high level basketball circles and would have to turn the best of the best down. 😂. Seriously though, I do think he would get about anyone we truly want with him added to the staff. Sorry for the long post.

Nobody is okay with 10 loss seasons, but when you play the #3 rated strength of schedule and you have injuries to starters, like Pope has, 10+ losses is almost a guarantee.
Still got a 3 seed 2 years ago with 11 losses, that is very telling.
Take the #1 pg off any team, or play your best pg with a separated shoulder and you're going to lose games.
Then, add in losses to guys like Carr and Robinson and you can forget about going anywhere.
Also, Quaintance quitting, put the nail in our coffin in year 2.
UK has been dealing with bad injuries for too many years now, we're due for an injury free year.
UK has been dealing with bad injuries for too many years now, we're due for an injury free year.

Man I sure hope so. I know other teams have had their share of injuries, but we’ve really had some bad ones.
I absolutely agree with all of your post, but my problem with Mark is putting everything on Lowe and not having any backup point guards. True point guards I mean. We had the money to make sure we had at least one high level backup PG and another good one if we needed them. I mean that should be day one stuff when building a roster at a place like Kentucky. Mark has to move on from recruiting lower level and I think it took a couple years to get that.
Honestly, I still would love a starting Pass/team first point guard running this team. I just think Zoom and Wilkins are both Shooting guards. Now Zoom has played the position but watching his games, he’s so much better playing off the ball like Denzel was. Now i do think Zoom is better at the point but still, with the money we were paying, I don’t know. I hope he proves me wrong and becomes an All SEC player this year. Thanks.

I think there are some scenarios where a Sweet Sixteen could keep him here. If you have a really good season and get upset in S16, I’d imagine he’s still around.

Theoretically, say you were a 2 seed and lost to a good 3 seed in the Sweet 16, I don’t know if they move on even with 10 losses.

Thinking of the 2001 team here, they ended up with 10 losses, were a 2 seed and got upset by USC in the Sweet 16.

I generally agree with what you’re saying. Pope needs an Elite Eight to confirm his job. I’d say he needs a very good regular season regardless of how he does in the postseason either way.

To add to why he would get another year, if he has a couple big time recruits committed already would certainly help. 😆. I could definitely see it then. Especially if we’re really competitive and playing great basketball.

I'm not b*tching, I just asked you a question.

If we have the exact same outcome this season as last (14 losses, 2nd round NCAA exit), regardless of injuries, does he deserve more leeway or no?
I'm just trying to establish how many years he "deserves" bc I've seen some people on here say any coach should automatically get up to 5, which is bonkers to me in the transfer portal era.
Not anymore. I think 3 years is the max. If you can’t have an elite team by then. You don’t have what it takes. If you aren’t at least trending to contender status.

Pleas don’t put Pope and another year in the same sentence brother man. My heart can’t handle it.

He was a trash player and a trash coach. Let’s be honest.

lol. Who are you? See how I get attacked @jedwar daily? I don’t even know who these people are and never conversed with them.

Chumps get beat up where I’m from talking like that.
He used the same term that you used. You believe it is perfectly fine for you to refer Pope that way but then you appeal to a moderator and talk about beating people up when it comes back at you?

Cool. Hopefully you take a lot of beatings.

You give yourself away when you include Pope's playing career, troll.
lol. Wouldn’t take one from you. I know that. What did I give away? Dude was garbage as a player. Are you seriously saying different? He was a captain cause Pitino must have loved him. It certainly wasn’t because of his playing abilities. Troll? Smack you in the mouth if you say that to my face. I know more about Kentucky than you know about ANYTHING. Punk hoe.

He played around 20 mpg on a 34-2 team that won the title. Which was more than Ron Mercer or Derek Anderson.

I apologize for what I said before. You were clearly born with severe mental limitations and can't help but be a drooling idiot. Enjoy the computer time they're allowing you at your institute.

So he’s better than Mercer and Anderson? Holy hell. You should apologize for that wack *** statement.

Computer time? Okay grandpa. I’m on my iPhone. When you get your desktop plugged in, reply back.

I am certain hes keeping that spot open for Crawford, I just think Crawford is insane if he leaves the announcing gig for an assistant job with a struggling coach that's about to lose his ad safety blanket.

Of course Pope can and hopefully will turn it around, but its a huge risk when you consider the safety and ease of announcing.
Yeah man. I agree. He’s good at the announcing thing I think. I doubt he would make more here than he does by NBC or whoever it is. Although, if he was smart, he should have plenty of cash so that shouldn’t matter. If he wants to seriously coach, being an assistant at Kentucky for your first gig has to be a dream come true.

The timing of the OV is very telling to me .

I think the reclass will be the focal point of this visit.

This just reeks of a shift in R.H. recruitment. Do I think he already knows 🤔 Crawford is on board.?? Will Crawford be present in some way(zoom) to solidify this reclass??? 🤔... i would like to believe thats highly likely.

Strike while you have momentum!! And give us some fun summer games!!
Who is RH? Thanks. Nothing against you at all but I hatewhen people use initials like that. Makes me have to think too hard lol.

Pope’s transfer to UK was the piece UK and Pitino needed to win a championship. Anyone who says he was a trash player is a baiting troll, even if they are not smart enough to know it themselves. Place the Dud on ignore.
This idiot again. I thought I put “dud” on ignore. Won’t make that mistake again. So you are saying we wouldn’t have won it all in 96 if Pope didn’t play? lmao. Let get some of what you are smoking. Must be some strong stuff.

You are already on ignore. Why am I seeing your dumb posts?

Yeah, Mark screwed up badly with last years roster. So many mistakes were made. Only getting 1 pg was a massive oversight.
But even as bad as the fit was, he still got a 7 seed with no pg and no lottery pick center. Losing Lowe was bad enough, but JQ quitting, was just a huge kick to the nuts.
If that's the worst season Pope ever has here, I'm good with that, but it's way past time to get back to where we should be.
I'm not sure if this new roster is good enough to get to a FF, but if he does get them to a FF, or even an E8, he will have coached his butt off.

PS, I'd put anything on you being the lunatic trashing this board every day. The manic depression symdrome is strikingly similar.

Lmao Pope was a decent college player but that team was loaded. He definitely wasn’t trash so I agree with that but he wasn’t that significant from what I remember. I’ve never seen a uk fan or heard a uk fan ever say that before about mark pope. If you don’t straighten up people will need to put him and you on ignore. You argue on this board just as much as he does.

The SEC is loaded again so I hate that . I’m a little worried about how this team will play defensively but I’m very confident in this teams scoring ability.
