Sad, but true.Gotta disagree with him on this. We are NOT better than this. This is who we are now as a country. We can't be trusted by our allies and we'll now do any and everything to serve our own interest. We USED to be the "good guys". Not any more. We are just looking after ourselves now.
That was what I expected and hoped Biden would do - put in limitations on executive overreach. But of course he didn’t do a thing to curb executive power. That said, I hope the next administration inserts more fixed gates as well as checks n balances against themselves, their staffs, and the other branches.

Sad state of affairs, but it will take a truly special president to do the right thing.
Well...you can see who Pete thinks is gonna be the nominee. Laying the groundwork.
They will both be inexorably tied to Trump just like Kamala was saddled with Joe Biden’s debt. If things keep going like this it is even possible that the GOP nominee is a MAGA outsider. 6 months ago I would have bet every cent I had that the GOP nominee would be one of Don Jr, Rubio or Vance. Now? Not nearly as confident. Some of the talking heads were discussing that 4 months ago, Vance was in the lead. But polls are showing Rubio has pulled neck and neck with him. Feeling good if those 2 are the lead candidates.
your avatar is a screenshot of an ai picture of you smoking a cigar and holding a glass of whiskeySo the people that fought against making america great again, because they couldnt figure out when america was great, now want to run on a "we are better than this" ideology.
I dont think democrats are capable of original thought at this point.
We need a massive counterstrike against all the corruption Trump has encouraged, allowed and committed.I love Pete's optimism and positivity. But.... agree with above, if we are better than this, it isn't much and many of us are NOT better than this.
That said, I hope the next administration inserts more fixed gates as well as checks n balances against themselves, their staffs, and the other branches. Even if congress wanted to, they really have very few ways to enforce themselves on the Executive. We also have no ways to hold the Supreme Court accountable for it's misuse of power and utter failure to have standards applied to them. And there is zero accountability on the Legislative branch other than waiting for the next election cycle to try and vote folks out. With the above and the radical gerrymandering, this is also why we need to have a legitimate 3rd party. 3rd party helps break these A vs B and when team A is in power, there is no need to work with B.
Vance seems to be the last remaining member of Team Trump who isn't a war monger. Probably why we're seeing stories that Trump wants to get rid of him. Some of the talking heads were discussing that 4 months ago, Vance was in the lead. But polls are showing Rubio has pulled neck and neck with him. Feeling good if those 2 are the lead candidates.
If our 2-party system weren't so deeply entrenched, "real" Republicans could just jump ship and form a new party (the Real Republican Party). MAGA has turned the GOP into a sewer, so let them have it.They will both be inexorably tied to Trump just like Kamala was saddled with Joe Biden’s debt. If things keep going like this it is even possible that the GOP nominee is a MAGA outsider. 6 months ago I would have bet every cent I had that the GOP nominee would be one of Don Jr, Rubio or Vance. And that is a good thing for America’s future.
Chis/RoseBowl?...HROT's most rabid D/Biden fan.
does counterstrike mean more corruption than was encouraged, allowed and committed during trump admin? We need a massive counterstrike against all the corruption Trump has encouraged, allowed and committed.
It'll take more than a president...it'll take a Congress willing to make tough choices. POTUS didn't take the power...Congress ceded it to the president so they didn't have to stick their necks out.As much as I like Pete and think he would do a good job as president, I hope he is not the candidate for the Democrats. America has proven twice that its not ready to elect a female president, I think the same will apply to an openly gay man. Much like in 2020, the goal needs to be to rid the country of MAGA. A controversial candidate will struggle with doing that.
Not arguing that at all but I believe the top of the ticket is vital. It'll take more than a president...it'll take a Congress willing to make tough choices. POTUS didn't take the power...Congress ceded it to the president so they didn't have to stick their necks out.
I mean, she was also the border czar over the worst illegal immigration crisis in our nation's history. She brought plenty of her own baggage in addition to the endless failures of joe biden. They will both be inexorably tied to Trump just like Kamala was saddled with Joe Biden’s debt. There are literally zero real stories about trump wanting Lance out lolVance seems to be the last remaining member of Team Trump who isn't a war monger. Probably why we're seeing stories that Trump wants to get rid of him.
Is the coming war on Cuba Rubio's audition for the job?
What's the procedure, if any, for dumping a VP? I figure Trump will just fire Vance and dare anyone to object.
Man, I'm glad I kept reading. For a second there...As much as I like Pete and think he would do a good job as president, I hope he is not the candidate for the Democrats. America has proven twice that its not ready to elect a female president...
Exactly this. I personally don’t identify with either party. I want a fiscally conservative, socially liberal party (which would ostensibly be libertarians if they were not batshIt crazy purists). I think this is a big reason why many of us are independent. If our 2-party system weren't so deeply entrenched, "real" Republicans could just jump ship and form a new party (the Real Republican Party). MAGA has turned the GOP into a sewer, so let them have it.
But then they'd have to get the new party on the ballot in each state, and they've made that extremely hard.
It’s not “entrenched.” It’s by design, even if accidentally. The founders didn’t trust the American people to elect a president so they designed a system they thought would send elections to the House and those “esteemed” men would choose the best person to lead the country regardless of the popular vote. The inevitable evolution of parties - which they didn’t want - doomed us to two competing ideologies which is precisely what our current system guarantees. The founders weren’t necessarily right on everything. If our 2-party system weren't so deeply entrenched, "real" Republicans could just jump ship and form a new party (the Real Republican Party). It's more than that. I don't want the House picking the president. Do you? If we have a third party capable of getting more than a few million votes, that's where we end up. Neither the Constitution nor the Electoral College allow for coalitions.Too much money and power available to NOT form a team. And the 2 party system has created protections against interlopers.
"The United States of American is SO much better than this."

LOL. I hope not.does counterstrike mean more corruption than was encouraged, allowed and committed during trump admin?
