That would be beyond shocking to me, but I guess stranger things have happened?
Yeah but we don’t need distractionsI think the chances of that happening are next to 0
in the other post. i'll share here too. https://www.on3.com/teams/south-car...-south-carolina-baseball-opening-updated-6-4/Link?
Not sure if we are supposed to post links to the South Carolina 247 site but I saw they had Forbes at the top of the list on their baseball hot board 2.0Link?
To be fair, that list is in alphabetical orderNot sure if we are supposed to post links to the South Carolina 247 site but I saw they had Forbes at the top of the list on their baseball hot board 2.0
See it on the On3 site as well: https://www.on3.com/sites/the-big-spur/news/thursday-south-carolina-baseball-search-update/Not sure if we are supposed to post links to the South Carolina 247 site but I saw they had Forbes at the top of the list on their baseball hot board 2.0
South Carolina has more money than us, not freaking out or anything but I think it would be silly to outright dismiss this.Is this the baseball version of us having to make Dusty May and Tommy Lloyd say no?
True but I’m sure Forbes is the number 1 guy based off of that listTo be fair, that list is in alphabetical order
Oh I’m certainly not dismissing it, when a big job is open and you think you’ve got an appealing offer you call one of the best in the sport and that is what Forbes has shown to be.South Carolina has more money than us, not freaking out or anything but I think it would be silly to outright dismiss this.
It would be a massive downgrade for him, solely would be only about money. This makes ABSOLUTELY No sense in any form of sorts.I just don’t see it. The only reason would be if he thought he couldn’t win a national championship here. He’s been through so much here and has the program built in his image operating at a consistently high level with increased financial support every year. Like it could happen but it would sort of cut against all available evidence about Coach Forbes as a person and UNC’s athletic department.
Then we need to pay the man what he is worth so there won’t be any distractions. I’m satisfied Forbes doesn’t want to leave Chapel Hill, but he should be compensated at market value for an elite baseball coach (like we did with basketball and football) and provided the resources for players and facilities to continue to be successful.Yeah but we don’t need distractions
Sec isn’t easy at all especially to rebuild a program. He can do everything here and compete. Need to pay him what he deservesI'd be surprised, but I didn't think Brian O'Connor would move from Charlottesville to Starkville either, and nothing in college athletics would truly stun me anymore.
I put it in the other thread, but one of Forbes best friends in baseball had this job, won the SEC and went to a Super Regional, then was out of a job a year later. I doubt that sat well with him if he was going to look for potential places to go.
He is the most successful coach in the state, so it makes senseThe Coastal people are convinced their coach is the leading candidate.
LESS THAN 0 %I think the chances of that happening are next to 0
#1: It's still South CarolinaSouth Carolina has more money than us, not freaking out or anything but I think it would be silly to outright dismiss this.
What ? I mean it’s out there. If he talked to them he talked to them regardless it’s worth discussing a day before super regionals start. It’s that time of year again, lol.
There was pretty open conflict between O’Connor and their athletic department, especially over commitment to the resources to fully fund the new roster/scholarship limits.Kind of spooky to even have these rumors come up just one year after Brian O'Connor (who won a national championship at UVA) left his life as a championship-winning head coach at Virginia to go live in Starkville, Mississippi.
Columbia isn't as good of a place to live as Chapel Hill, but the gap isn't nearly as big as the gap between Starkville and Charlottesville, haha. So it's scary that an established coach like O'Connor viewed the gap between the SEC and the ACC to be so large that he left Virginia for Mississippi State.
I think winning it all is very important to Coach Forbes. The question is whether he believes he has enough resources at UNC to win it all or not. Let's win it all this year and remove all doubt!
What is the revenue share for baseball? It may be less about a pay increase for Forbes and more about the rev share baseball is getting, which is not in the ballpark of a top 15-20 D1 baseball program.
Yeah. There isn't open conflict between UNC and Forbes, but he does make comments (completely fair ones) from time to time about revenue share, resources, and making sure he feels like we can put a roster and coaching staff together that can always compete with the team in the other dugout, even in the biggest games. There was pretty open conflict between O’Connor and their athletic department, especially over commitment to the resources to fully fund the new roster/scholarship limits.
How so? Are SEC schools even giving rev share money to baseball? Looks like SC is spending about $1 million more on baseball than UNC is, but SC is also losing more money in baseball than UNC (nearly a $2.7 million deficit in recent NCAA filings). It may be less about a pay increase for Forbes and more about the rev share baseball is getting, which is not in the ballpark of a top 15-20 D1 baseball program.
For the upcoming season, our women’s basketball team will have a rev share more than triple that of baseball, I’ve been told. What is the revenue share for baseball?
