Wishy washy. Bevacqua could go either way, depending on how things go down. Way to take a stand Pete.

I don't know how you get Notre Dame into a conference when they get to keep all of their football TV revenue and the fact that they are guaranteed a college football playoff berth as long as finish ranked in the top 12.

Yeah, ND is going to fight to the end avoiding a move to a major (P2) conference. They refuse to be an equal in football with other conference schools. In the ACC the Irish are big enough to make their own football participation requirements.

I've always wondered how Notre Dame is able to stay on this pedestal that justifies their own TV deal. They haven't been a dominant football power in years, consistently good but not elite. Demographics, the landscape of college sports, and culture in general has changed so much over the last 25 years. The "mystique" of Notre Dame seems very 20th century.

Indiana is an interesting case-study.

3 years ago, they absolutely would've been left by the wayside, including their basketball program.

Now that they've won a national title, would a super league leave out a program that's throwing top dollar to stay in this newfound spotlight?

I'll put it this way. If it ever came down to a choice between Iowa and Indiana......the choice both now and 3 years ago would've been a no-brainer.

......................But they would've been different answers, which isn't what Iowa fans want to hear.

I think Petitti is being pretty square and transparent here. A two super league set up with 20 to 24 teams in the two leagues doesnt make sense. It would be minor league NFL even USFL as all the other teams would mainly play each other.

If there is any traction to restricting expansion you will see the big 10 and SEC move quickly at expansion and then the door will be shut before any bill passes.
Yeah, the Big 10 would want to get to 20 teams for sure in that scenario and have two 10 team divisions or even 4 five team divisions with post season semifinal and then a championship game.

If it goes to super conferences as long as the hawks get in then so be it. I dont want it but I have zero say

Iowa will be most certainly in. Iowa state is in a terrible position. Their fans who follow this stuff know it and they are having a melt down. There is no way Clown can be competitive in football I this environment

depends on the legal forecast of that move. I just think its funny that Tony answers the question as if he is would be the kingpin to make it happen. lmfao. He controls nothing. He is a figure head.

Not sure what teams would make the cut but there seems to be outsider interest in it.

How many billions wouldn't need to be offered before the desired schools would say yes?

People keep talking about a 32-team Super League and imagining some dramatic breakaway. I think they’re missing the most likely scenario.

The SEC and Big Ten may never formally leave the NCAA. They may not have to.
Instead, I believe the most likely outcome is the creation of a new subdivision above the current FBS. Call it Division I Premier, Division I Power, or whatever name they choose. The top 48 brands would compete for their own national championship under their own governance and financial rules.

Immediately people yell, ā€œAntitrust!ā€ or ā€œMonopoly!

I don’t see it.

The precedent already exists.

Division I, II, and III exist. FBS and FCS exist. Schools operate under different scholarship limits, different financial structures, and separate championships. Nobody seriously argues that the FBS playoff constitutes an illegal monopoly against Northern Iowa, North Dakota State, or hundreds of Division II and Division III programs.

The legal principle that different competitive levels may exist has been accepted for decades.

The SEC and Big Ten would not be preventing anyone from playing football. They would not be dissolving the NCAA. They would simply be saying:

ā€œWe are creating a new subdivision with different rules and our own championship.ā€

That is fundamentally different from excluding schools from college football.

In fact, schools in the new subdivision could still schedule games against lower divisions, just as FBS schools currently play FCS opponents. The schools outside the Premier Division would continue to have their own championships and governance.

People also forget that the College Football Playoff itself is not an NCAA championship. The highest level of college football has already been operating under a separate system for years. A Premier Division would merely formalize what economic reality has already produced.

And history tells us something else.

The SEC and Big Ten have repeatedly demonstrated that they want more autonomy, more revenue, and more control. More often than not, they eventually get it.

Politically and legally, it is far easier to say,

ā€œWe are moving up to a new division,ā€

than it is to say,

ā€œEveryone else is out.ā€

A 48-team Premier Division seems much more realistic to me than a clean breakaway Super League. It follows established precedent, minimizes legal exposure, preserves the NCAA structure, and acknowledges the simple reality that the wealthiest programs increasingly inhabit a world that is fundamentally different from the rest of college football.

People may not like that reality. But disliking it does not make it any less likely.

If Cruz and Cantwell want the bill to pass they are going to have to remove the media revenue pool and expansion prohibitions. Then it might have a chance of passing.

We are a very long way from a Super League. It's not even a realistic scenario, yet.

That's the issue they're dealing with right now.

Private entities/equity are trying to push to get this exclusive super league, and to be honest it doesn't even sound like they give a damn about viewership numbers either, which is funny because I can promise you regardless of the TV deals and whatever network this trash gets put on, that will be the last straw for most fans.
