The debate over whether fish belongs in an office microwave may finally have a definitive answer.
Michael DeBiase was arrested on May 30 and charged with pointing and presenting a firearm at an alleged kitchen offender, according to the arrest warrant from the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division. He has since been released on bond.
The document stated that DeBiase, 46, “confronted” another officer about “warming up fish in the microwave, causing a strong odor.”
The Myrtle Beach Police Department also shared a message on Facebook and revealed that DeBiase was no longer with the department “following a violation of department policy after allegations that he pointed his firearm at another officer,” the statement posted on Tuesday, June 2 read.
The statement added that DeBiase allegedly removed his department-issued firearm from its holster and pointed it at a fellow officer while inside a “briefing room.” He was placed on administrative leave pending investigations by the department’s Office of Professional Standards and the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division.
According to the department, the internal review uncovered “several policy violations.”
“This incident does not reflect the values demonstrated by the men and women of the Myrtle Beach Police Department every day,” the statement continued. “However, it does demonstrate our commitment to accountability and our willingness to address conduct that falls short of our expectations.”
