Now will people get off Pope's *** and support this team

With this great get, will everyone quit being negative and just support our team and be positive until we see what happens?
I will support the team, but I will only stop calling Pope out when we start playing defense, running an offense, and stop getting blown out in the first half.

We finely land a decent transfer player, and suddenly we are trashing other fans with another new screenname. We haven't arrived and Pope still has a lot to prove as a coach. Until I see him produce a tough disciplined team who will actually play defense for 40 minutes, I will continue to be critical. Being a fan doesn't mean I have to give out participation trophies. Here's a novel thought, don't tell me how to fan and I won't tell you how to fan properly.

Popes main issue is intensity and defense. Then we sign a guy who many on here say doesn't play defense and all of a sudden we are supposed to bow down to Pope.

Produce and earn that respect from the fanbase. WE ARENT NEW TO HIGHLY RATED RECRUITS. PRODUCE ON THE COURT.

Imagine a guy missing on nearly every single major recruit he’s after, losing blowouts in record numbers, getting killed by guys like Nate Oats, setting records as the worst or second worst coach in UK history, with a 12 year coaching record that’s low-mid, and literally sitting 0-near 30 on top freshman players, and imagine someone pumping their chest because he received a late cycle recruit. I’m glad he pulled it, but some of you will literally do anything to support someone, as far as ignoring the 99% of things that tell you he’s not a good coach. Cling to the 1%, but it doesn’t mean anything until Mark Pope becomes something he’s never been and that’s a quality coach. And there’s no arguing that, you can only act like you’re a teenager with limited reasoning skills.
Imagine a coach having a come into the season with a top 10-15 team in the country and have a fanbase making chicken little posts like this

Sorry fans are used to being preseason number 1 and then losing. We don't even get the preseason excitement anymore.

Preseason number 15 isn't exciting but more less the media giving a fair prediction and this didn't used to be a fan base that flexed being rated 15th to 25th.

All it does is delay the inevitable. He cannot recruit, and he isn’t a good enough coach to overcome that consistently. It’s only going to get worse if there is some sort of legislation that limits transfers and/or changes the way the money is doled out.

Brilliant. Start by trashing Diallo, Wilkins, McBride, Morton, and Big Franck and then cry about fans being “trashed.” Tone deaf post of the day.

Thank You Sir. Your post shows the level of delusional stupidity some of the base has fallen to.
"Fans used to being Preseason #1"....I guess that is part of the "standards" right?

All-time Kentucky has been preseason #1 exactly....4 times. So even if you were Moses, you wouldn't be "used " it LMAO

You are embarrassed because I use facts to prove your stupidity. Ill go you one better...We have one of the greatest programs in CBB history. That being said, do you know what our AVERAGE preseason rank has been yhe last 30 years? Exactly 10th. So the Horror of this team coming in between 10-17 this year. I can see how you barely sleep at night

I don't sleep at all at night. I work bubba. And I'm sorry I didn't go back 30 years but to the coach the last 15 years..do his average. And why is everything an attack from you? Why can't you disagree without being all dramatic. It's actually kind of weird like it's all played out.

I thought you was about to start replying normal for once but I guess it's always going to be this "you don't think how I think so you're dumb"

I have no problem with anyone that still has critisisms. There are plenty of reasons to be concerned, so I won't be jumping on anyone that has some negative takes.

Getting Milan is awesome, love it, but Pope missed on so many others. Why? How is that even possible?

I also get the feeling he's oblivious to the situation. He appears to be flexing over this and a couple weeks ago, he said he was proud of what the program has accomplished. He’s also not that far removed from the interview where he said he accomplished more on the SECT and the NCAAT than the previois staff did in 4 years. Well, we played on Wednesday in the SECT. Not cool.

But, I get it, as the coach, you have to keep a positive outlook and you have to have thick skin.

If he has an E8 type of season, he’s going to be here a while and if he is, he needs to figure this recruiting thing out. He’s telling these kids something that turns them off. There is no reason a UK coach should miss on this many recruits.

I hope he kills it in 26/27, I like the guy, but he really needs to read the room better than he has been.

We lost 14 games last year. How anyone would be ok with that is mind boggling.

I do agree with the idea of now being on board and waiting to see what happens. To say this off season went smoothly or as planned is a big stretch, but he did somewhat land the plane. We will see how it pans out, but I am optimistic for the first time in a while.

Pope still has to prove it on the court. He did some very odd things last year and an outright refusal to adapt by hiring a GM just contributed to things.

People who are cautiously optimistic are taking the right path IMO. Those on both sides of the extremes who will complain about everything and defend everything are not gonna change. Luckily, they are the extreme fringe 90% of us fall in the middle and want Pope to do well. We just haven’t been given much to look forward to up until now.

What isn't 100% true about what he posted? What he posted were straight facts whether you like them or not they are the facts!
Whats wrong is we just signed the top player in the portal, have an exciting team that will be ranked 10-15 in the country, and you guys keep making these whiney posts about how terrible Pope is. I say, if you are really a fan of UK basketball, you'll stop with these chicken little posts and wish the man the best this year.

I have made numerous posts extensively detailing numerous coaches that went on to be great who had similar or lesser starts at this point in their career vs. what Pope has done.
Did you happen to mention the factors of when they started, the age and experience they started, relying on retention of previous rosters, and availability of NIL and the transfer portal?

The victimization mindset is everywhere now, even in this thread.

We all want UK to win. If Pope makes a Final Four next year, we'll all be thrilled.

Yet, some of you guys make it seem like our evaluation of Pope is absent of real data, as in an 11 year sample size where his winning percentages have never exceeded 75% for a single season, and the baseline percentage is just a tad bit above 64%.

Pope landed a great player, and I will give him credit for that, but we're still looking at the guy who has finished 6th and 9th in the SEC, missed on 14 straight top twenty recruits, and has been beaten down in the NCAA Tournament by 13 points and 19 points in back-to-back years.

Pope is the one who is auditioning to keep his job right now; the fans owe him little more than "wait and see" right now. We were excited about last season, too, lest we forget.

We'll all be cheering for Pope and Kentucky next year, but does that mean that Pope is exonerated for all of his failures thus far? No at all.

Pope can and hopefully will prove us all wrong this year.
I thought about replying to this topic, but your post sums up my thoughts.

I like this roster and look forward to next season, but Pope has to win. It's on him to prove that he is the right guy for this job. He can still do that, but he definitely hasn't proven it so far. Just win...that's how he will be evaluated. No excuses going forward. Hopefully we have a great year, and we all feel great about his future here. If not, he'll be gone.

And if they fired him that would be fine. But they didn't. So you think it is better to whine and cry nonstop than to be happy he has put together a good team? Pathetic
I'm not whining and crying about anything. But I certainly can't blame any UK fan for still being down on Pope.
His recruiting isn't the only thing in question. His in-game coaching has to be better than it was last year. Go win games and all this negativity goes away

I don't mind criticism and think some is warranted, but people also pretend that losing your PG and PF for the season doesn't matter and its still FF or bust, which is nonsense. In gane decisions, sure, but we lost a lot of games last year because the other teams were better. He looks to have a fair hamd this season. I know its make or break, but a lot of people that hate his guts better come to grip with the fact that while he could absolutely lose his job after next season, he also has the opportunity to be here much longer if he does well

Fans have every right to question pope. He knows it’s a final four or bust type season. The guy had no resume and still has nothing to write home about. And players in this era deserve some criticism. They are all hired guns. It’s not a top 10 team unless we win. So it’s real simple. Pope just needs to win and accomplish something. It’s real simple if you want the fanbase off your butt. Win. And win big. Pope hasn’t done anything yet. Putting together a decent roster by the skin of popes teeth.

I’m ready to get back in the thick of it. Pope hasn’t done anything to win early and often

I wish Pope and my Cats the best as always.
We heard a lot of smoke going into this past season and it was a disaster.
In 11 years as head coach, Pope hasn’t won anything relevant.

Hopefully this is the year.

I don’t want to hear about fatigue or watch us getting blown out.

I've been a basher but I'll give he and the staff kudos on getting Milan but it will come down to wins and losses and Tourney performance..And for me that should at least a 1-3 place finish in the SEC and a final 8 or better in the NCAA.

I'm happy we have a respectable roster now, but it is not hating to recognize that there is something broken with recruiting, especially out of high school. I've been on this board almost since the beginning and the whole sunshine pumpers vs haters is just a tired excuse for people to argue. True fans come in all shapes and sizes. Some are genetically pessimistic, some are refreshingly optimistic. I wish I was less of the former and more the latter. I am always hopeful and positive about a new coach, but when they don't work out, it's not hating to want to go in a new direction.

I have always liked Pope, even though his quirky, some say dorky, disposition is not really my cup of tea. I was fine with his hiring. In fact, I started to think about him possibly becoming our coach someday when his BYU team beat Kansas in Allen Fieldhouse. I think he did a great job assembling a staff and team from scratch in a very short timeframe. And I think he did very well that first season. But I am not willing to let my liking him blind me to the issues surrounding him. It might not be the fit we all hoped for. Maye this season will be more like the first, and they will get the recruiting issues sorted out. I very much hope that is the case.

Exactly, he is 1 for forever in recruiting quality recruits. Two if you want to more effective wilkins. Both of his teams have been horrible on defense and been blown out numerous times. His substitution patterns are like church leagues where everyone gets to play. He chased Stokes like a dog in heat, when everyone that followed recruiting knew he was going to Kansas. He recruited zoom to entice Stokes to play at uk, when there were better point guards available, namely cruz. He can create and score better than zoom. He let pretty good players go elsewhere because was chasing supposedly better players. His teams have no toughness or desire. This again has no quality backup point guard and has only 2 proven shooters. He apparently has plenty of nil $, but still can't close deals. He has much to prove to the fans before he deserves any praise. His Pic on Instagram or whatever is childish and apparently finally landing a decent recruit is like winning the ncaa.

Ok, it's fine to point out his recruiting flaws, but bashing his coaching is a little less substantive. Did he just luck out getting tons of quality wins in his first season? Beating Duke, Gonzaga and the eventual champ Florida. And while this last season was a failure, we still made the tourney and won in the first round. Do people forget that Cal had a season of 9-16? NINE wins....for an entire season. Pope was 87-41 at BYU. Not great by any means, but not abysmal. I don't think coaching is the issue. He may not be right for UK, but for other reasons.

Reread your post. If you want to know how to be viewed as a troll, say Milan is the only “decent” portal get for Pope. You don’t even understand your own words, unless you simply are a troll.
That is "trashing'" the other players? Wow, now we are really stretching to feign offense. If you're going to act outraged about everything and be a drama queen about simple discussion, it's probably better for your emotional stability to put me on ignore.

It’s his money. Plus we are all estatic we finally got an elite player. He is now like 1 for 50 on his elite player offers outside a hurt JQ who did nothing, but make us piss away 3M dollars. Just because people want actual on court changes now doesn’t make them bad fans. We still lost double digit games and got blown out a few too many times especially when it counted in his best year here so far.
That 1 for 50 number is incredibly disingenuous. Pope has brought more than 1 great player, and 50 is just a number you made up. You don't know how many players we chose to back out on versus how many said no. Yeah, we lost a lot more games last year than we would like. We also had our number 1 point guard out almost all season, and our number two sucked. We still won some big games. Every great coach has seasons like that. It's fine if you don't think he's going to work out but the decision to give him a third year has already been made, intentionally sabotaging it is just retarded.
