Indiana fired a bad coach and was able to hire a better coach because they already made the necessary investments. Its a lot easier to hire a better coach when you've already spent close to $100M on facilities.
We fired Chris Ash and hired Greg Schiano. Yet didn't provide him with the facilities or NIL support he asked for. He had the football facility put into his contract. Greg Schiano is a better Coach, who has optimized our situation. We might not have a winning record this year, but at least we'll be competitive against football programs which have spent a ton on football success over GENERATIONS. Put him at Miami or Michigan, and he would win Championships because he would amass so much talent, he would be able to overcome his coaching mistakes. That is essentially what Mario Christobal is doing, whom we could have hired in 2012. Miami just flipped another 5 star today. You why? Because the campus looks like Paradise and it is an awesome place to go to school, and someone wrote a big check. What exactly does Rutgers have to offer recruits?
- the crappy campus
- the crappy bus system
- the crappy facilities
- the adverse history
- our wonderful apparel deal with BSN, which makes us look like a joke
Better coaches and better players won't come to Rutgers because there isn't enough support to be successful. There hasn't been for the last 150 years. These days, we can't even get Jerseys best to visit. Indiana made the commitment in both facilities and NIL. You go to ANY Big Ten Campus, and I've been to most of them, and you can see why recruits would rather go there than Rutgers. Its not rocket science. They're nicer places!
