Happy Memorial Day!

I hope all is well with you folks and you can relax on this day (if that's what you want to do).

2 co-ed softball games yesterday and we won both of them. Sitting at 10-0 for the season with about 4 games left. There is another team sitting at 10-0 as well and we will not play them in the regular season because there are too many teams in the league (says Lawton) so, we will probably meet in the end of season tournament. If the tourney started today, we would be the overall #1 seed because we have scored more runs than them. That team also has the son of one of the guys I played ball with many years ago.

We had a big lead in our second game yesterday so, I tried to go yard (mostly base hits for me) in my last at bat. Warning track power left it short. It looked originally like it was going but fell short.

Had a guy from another team come and ask me if I would like to go with him and his team to a men's senior's national tournament in Colorado next month. I thanked him but told him no, did not really want to travel that far to play ball. I Used to when I was younger, but I am content with just beer league ball these days.

Well, I will send this to my publisher and get it out to you folks shortly so...

GOD Bless and enjoy the day.
I wish our rural area had a league close enough to play. We can't even get a church league going nowadays. I'm not sure my fishing elbow could hold up to a hard throw to first any more.... from 2nd lol, my natural position.

Good morning folks.

Respect today to all who have sacrificed so we can live in this wonderful country.

If not inappropriate, I'd like to just mention two who died serving America who I met while doing my job:

Navy Capt. Scott Speicher. I met him aboard the USS Saratoga in the Red Sea shortly before the start of Desert Storm. He seemed like an admirable man. I wrote about him in one of my dispatches, noting that he told me his father had been a fighter pilot in World War 2, and he was proud to carry on the tradition. He was shot down over Iraq I think the first night of the air war. MIA until 2003, when I was back in Iraq, and heard his body had been found.

USMC Major Megan McClung. Megan was the Marines' public affairs chief in the Ramadi-Fallujah sector in 2006. I passed through there, and like all journalists checked in with her for a briefing, and form her help in getting embedded with combat patrols so I could report of what was going on. I met her a couple times. Shortly after my last trip to Fallujah I heard she'd been killed by an IED explosion while performing her duties. I've seen her grave site at Arlington.

Prayers for their families today, and for all the families of those who died doing their duty.

A great-great grandfather of mine, Frederick Brandt, an immigrant, was shot through the head June 5, 1864 at the Battle of Piedmont, VA. His regiment, 28th OH Volunteers, along with others was attempting to take the Confederate defensive position. He was later buried at Staunton VA National Cemetery. A great uncle died in France at the end of WWI from the so-called Spanish Flu.

Re warning track power: at a playing weight of 170, I was never a Mark McGwire , but I got all my body weight into my swing, so I hit it harder than a lot of guys bigger than me. After a couple of surgeries on my left leg, I could no longer step hard into a swing. It made me to much of an arm hitter and was very frustrating.

Wow, made me remember the last ball I played. At a church league in SA I think 2011 (Before I went to Korea.). Played two games went 9 for 9 my last two games... Made me feel good as my last Legion Ball, I hit .414 or .415 over that season (I remember arguing with the official scorer back then I think 1980 or 81. (Mostly hand calculations but I knew I was right. ;) ).

I could hit anything I could reach but had a good eye and only swung at strikes unless I didn't want to and was let to swing away. My hand/eye coordination is still ridiculous. Just never did have any legs. In high school I could barely jump off my toes. Used to get laughed at a lot until thay didn't. ;) I am walking okay now so I am thankful...

Hello All,

Just been at it today "doing stuff". Just changed the antifreeze in the wife's Camry, will do it again tomorrow or the next day to get a good flush. Seemed okay but I cannot remember when it was last changed and we bought it new in 2015. Actually still real pink except when I took the top cover off. Looked a little rusted. Oh well, Will do it once again tomorrow or at latest Wednesday. Then I have a bunch to take to recycling at our landfill counting the oil and antifreeze used stuff.

Getting ready to take the BB home to his Mom in about an hour. Have a good what's rest of your evening(s)....

My final six months in Viet Nam were as Asst NCOIC of security at a radar station. We took on all takers in fast pitch softball and never lost. Our huge advantage was we had a pitcher who had (when he was back in the states) beaten Eddie Feigner (The King and his Court). One time we stomped a group of Korean sailors in a double header for beer. I had a grand slam and a 3 run shot the first game and a homer and triple the second game.

It is still a great game and America's pastime even though golf has taken a big bite out of the numbers of people playing. Softball allows you to still play into your old age because of beer leagues and seniors leagues.

I have yet to play in the senior's leagues because of regular teams still wanting me to play. A few of my current teammates have called me a freak of nature because of being 68 and still playing. I told them it was the grace of God keeping me healthy and physically able to play because he knows how much I love it. I thank God every day for his blessings.

Good morning folks. Back in DC. Still cloudy and muggy in the east.

Busy work week. My son is fixing to head out to Colorado to his new job. I'm excited for him. Oh, to be young and off on a new adventure. But still time for us old relics. I've booked and put a deposit on a trip to Zimbabwe, Botswana and South Africa for September. That should be a bit of an adventure, especially a couple small boat trips on the Zambezi where the hippos and crocs are known to lurk.

Until then, just grinding away. I hope you all have a good day.

Hello All,

Up early and just got back from dropping off the BB at school. Raining here, I have a bunch to do anyway BUT, I am not pressed to do anything, What a feeling. WoW.... Drinking coffee and readying to log on and check my final items to ensure they are tracking but I do not expect any movements today... We shall see, I am thankful!

If I had a day, I'd choose this one, no better than the present. Take the present and mold it for good going forward...

I will be in Vienna in mid-June. Any tips on places to eat or see?
I thought their Vienna Sausage was good. :)

Very pretty city. I enjoyed the burial site of the Hapsburg emperors - not everybody's cup of tea. The ring highway has plenty of sites, but dang if I can remember what is what. They have a large park (parks?) with statues of great classical music figures. The Schönbrunn Palace was the Hapsburgs comeback to Versailles. Very good. St. Stephen's Cathedral is another of the great Euro cathedrals. Rick Steves guidebook is your friend. Lots of it online.

Hello All,

I was contacted yesterday concerning more items required for my complete exit(s). I was amazed but not surprised. Still have a few more heavy lift type days but I actually did not get dejected or angry (This time). I had almost a couple days of more free time. It felt good and gave me a taste of what’s to come so…

I was actually upstairs a lot today in our “other” living room outside our one Lego room and guest bedroom. The BB and Little Bigger BB were playing (After their operation.).... I was running out of time to complete the operation... and it too worried me...

Oh the operation explanation….

Back when the BB was about two and the Little BB was about a year and a few months I KNOW, I just know my oldest daughter switched their armpits in a complicated operation to where for years, everytime I tickled one of their armpits I would immediately think it was the other one... (Trust me, that's what happened...), I NEVER could figure it out and it just is what it is now, UNTIL today after the operation and they healed and I tested them again... I was not fooled any longer into thinking one was the other ...they are HEALED!!!!

Oh, you don't believe me right... Figures, well, I have pictures after I completed the operation and they were still knocked out...

Yeah, they are six and seven now....Yeah, SIX----------------SEVEN..............

Their armpits were healing then but they healed pretty quick!

Good morning folks. Last day downtown this week. With any luck, I'll break the back of my work week today and have an easy Friday and restful weekend.

So, the big kid from Iowa State by way of Croatia (Serbia?) is staying in college. Can Pope close a deal, finally? I hope so. Kentucky should have the most money left among the contenders. And a wide open offense for him to showcase his abilities. We'll see.

Nothing much else going on right now. You all have a great day.

Austin, prayers for your wife and for your family. I'm sorry to hear things are reaching a critical stage. Both my father and mother were comfortable and at peace near the end with hospice and I hope that is her experience.

Beautiful day in the east. Grinding out the end of the work week, and planning a weekend birthday barbeque for my wife's step-father. Hope you all have a good one.

Good morning folks. Welcome to the weekend.

Heading out to get all the stuff we need for a cook-out. It'll be a small affair, but relaxing and fun.

Still waiting out Momcilovic. Nothing comes easy for Pope. It's mostly the times we're living through, but I can't help but note the last struggle over the last relevant player goes down to the last minute for Kentucky, instead of players fighting to come to Lexington and taking less money for the privilege. My enthusiasm for the sport is at about 40 percent of peak. I really don't know if it'll ever rise from that. But I know the potential is there for it to sink much lower fast.

Have a great day guys.

Good morning everyone.

This MM recruitment is crazy. If he doesn't sign with us I'll need to stay away from FB and this forum. If he does we should be pretty good and fun to watch.

More of the same here.....weed eating the hillsides both at home and on the hiking trails and at the lake when the weather and the work cooperates.

Prayers for those that need them and have a great Sunday.

Good morning folks. Absolutely beautiful day in the east. Went for a four mile run. Saw a spectacular Great White Egret and a Great Blue Heron side-by-side, apparently jostling over territory. Majestic birds. The herons are common but I haven't seen an egret that size for a couple years, if ever.

We had a very nice cook-out yesterday, and a momentous one -- my daughter's boyfriend took me aside and asked permission to propose to herr. I'd seen this coming, but credit to the guy for doing it right. He's a producer for CBS News in Washington, and 60 Minutes. My daughter sent me a photo a couple weeks ago of him miking up Donald Trump for the interview he did on 60 Minutes. I guess she wouldn't mind me sharing it. So, he gets to do interesting stuff -- recently went all over Asia with Hegseth, and so on. More importantly, I've watched very closely for a few years now, and he treats my daughter very well. So, I said okay.

Great to hear about an assemblance of proper courtesy from one that age. I know they are out there but real good to hear about them as I do not hear as much about that as I'd like to... Good luck to them. Thanks for posting it. (I love young people and children but see far and few between the common courtesies that...."Used to be...").

HAHA........... I check the words I use a lot... I checked assemblance and find........

"Assemblance is an obsolete (no longer in use) noun that originally meant either an assembling (the act of bringing or gathering things or people together) or a semblance (a likeness, representation, or appearance of something). It is rarely, if ever, used in modern English and is largely considered a historical variation of assemblage or semblance"

I DO check myself most of the time BUT, at least I know what I used to know... ROTFLCGU (The senior version of ROTFL) (Can't Get Up.)!!!!!!!!!!!!! :sneaky::ROFLMAO::LOL::eek::eek::eek::eek:

I KNEW I was a rare...............If EVER breed!!! 🤪

Morning D-Legionnaires!

Had 2 co-ed softball games yesterday and once again we won both. Now standing at 12-0 with one weekend left in the season before tournament. Will start playing in another league that is in Chickasha, OK. on the 11th of June for a different team.

Weather starting to heat up as the lows are in the 70's and the highs in the 90's. Rain coming in midweek should help cool things off for a bit. The monster struggles in the heat so, our walks are a bit shorter as I let her dictate route and return, and she is turning around to come home faster these days.

Bat Cats had a chance to move to the Super Regionals yesterday but blew it. They will be trying again tonight at 5pm on ESPN2 so....

Monday, Monday once again so get out there and get it done.

God Bless and God Speed to you all.

Good morning folks. Another spectacular day in the east - clear skies, no humidity and 72 degrees. This must be what Heaven is like - or at least San Diego. SInce I'm in the DC area instad, it'll be hellish soon enough, so I'm enjoying my early morning runs before they take place in a sauna.

Busy at work already. I'm actually trying to enjoy these next several months because within a year I plan to be retired and I want to wring as much out of the end of my 55 year experience with wrestling a paycheck from the world as possible, even though I'm past the stage of needing the check.

I hope all is well for all of you.

We had our 185 mile race on Sunday Columbia TN.........I had 4 birds in the premiums with my best being 4th place.........I told the Director on Sat. evening to remember a number..........sure enough he was the first one of my team that made it home. ........The birds had a tough wind set up with the winds blowing straight out of the E, then about 25 miles into KY they wind turned into a ENE win. Naturally the winning loft is out in New Salisbury, IN. I sent 13 birds and had 10 to return.........We have a 400 mile race on Saturday......I have managed to finish in the top 10 all but one week it was 11th.........I hope the trend continues.........I am living my dream!

Good morning folks.

Excellent news for the Cats last night with the signing of Momcilovic. I’ve been watching video of him in games against teams like Kansas, who Iowa Stare spanked, Houston and others. I think he’s a perfect fit for the offense Pope ran the first year which was pretty effective until both Butler and Robinson were injured. I’d love to see him and a healthy Kam Williams both on the wing, opening up driving lanes for Diallo and Wilkins and keeping defenses from clogging the lane so Moreno can work on shorter defenders one-on-one.

Another beautiful day in the east. Thus has been a brilliant run. Getting off the subway in DC. You all have a good day.
