So we know UK has the most money to give, most playing time, allegedly a shooter-friendly system. Those are pretty stacked odds. How would you guys, in the shoes of an opposing coach, try to win the recruitment? Basically it has to come down to "this is why an extra $M now won't be worth it for your future".
I would say:
- Koby Brea -- Pope's headline sharpshooter -- dipped over 6% in 3PT % (with more shot attempts). Despite the hype and desire to run a "30 3s a game" system, Pope's teams don't really run any action for shooters and play sloppy. Meanwhile, here's film for sets we run, and we'd get you open like this, this, and this.
- The same Koby Brea got selected 41st overall and plays 5 min a game. If that's what you wanted, you would have stayed in the draft this year.
- Show video from the Vandy game where Oweh walked with the ball just so he could keep yelling at Moreno.
- Highlight players that you've coached that have received second contracts in the league. Offer to call them up on the spot and let them talk. That $1-2M in NIL you're missing out on now is nothing to what you'll miss out on to set you up for life.
Basically play up the "I have helped guys not only get to the league, but shine there" card. That's one thing that elite recruits all want and the same area where Pope is highly deficient (as of now). Obviously all the points I listed won't work for every coach.
