#1 loses to #56 in five sets. Sinner suffered terrible cramps in the heat and could not recover. Crazy.

Wow. Have been so busy haven’t paid much attention to the FO so far. I try to catch up on weekends. Sinner gone is a big blow. Anyone but Djokovic though.

Dumb question: Is it politically incorrect in some circles to refer to the event as the French Open? My xfinity guide shows it as “2026 Roland Garros Tennis” with a logo showing “ROLAND GARROS PARIS”.

Never heard that. Roland Garros is sort of the international name of the tournament whereas French Open is what it’s called in English. Used interchangeably I guess but the official website has ‘Roland Garros’ all over it.

I have heard Roland Garros with respect to the event over the years, but I’m used to French Open. Of course, I’m a moron. 😞

With Carlos and Jannik out of it now it will be interesting to see who steps up. Would love to see American Tiafoe or Shelton get into the final. Zeverev has proclaimed himself in the next tier after Sinner, so let's see if he put-up or shuts up. Ruud, Djoko, or any of upcoming Spaniards are always good bets to make the final. Intense heat however!

Shelton got beat badly yesterday in straight sets. He was awful. No return game. Judar might be the surprise of the tournament but the top half of the draw is wide open. I can't see Tiafoe winning a major but this is his best shot.
I know why people dont like Zverev but he's probably the best to never win a major. We went straight from the Big 3 to the invincible 2. Only reason someone else will win this time is Carlos is injured and Sinner can't handle extreme heat.

Wow, missed that Shelton got beat. That stinks. Maybe Tommy Paul can pull thru. He's playing Ruud, which would be a big win for him.

Rooting for Paul for sure...he's probably in the toughest quarter of the draw Ruud then likely Novak to get to the SFs I believe

Well that chair umpire did her best to help sinner win that 3rd set. When that didn’t happen the match dragged on and cerundolo did a great job moving him around and making him work harder. Great composure and patience to beat the world’s number 1 no matter what was happening.

It was basically the worst guy for Sinner to face in that situation. A guy that doesn't make unforced errors and was just willing to make Sinner work. Sinner wasted way too much energy in the 4th. Should have tanked it, rested and hydrated hoping he'd have more luck in the 5th IMO

The French call it Roland Garros, and that's it's "official" name...much as everyone over there calls it "The Open", but we call it the British Open. Same thing happens in reverse too...we know it as "The Masters", but many is other parts of the world know it as the "US Masters".

Fonseca-Novak would have been one of the best finals ever--insane third round match
Novak's personality makes him tough to root for but damn is he impressive at this age
Fonseca's well on his way to living up to the hype

The men's draw is wide open at this point...really an opportunity for an American man to make a run. Tiafoe's quarter of the draw has opened up like I've never seen before, as it's now him and seven unseeded players. Too bad it didn't happen on a surface that's better for him than clay.

If I was betting on an American it would probably be Tien. But Tiafoe has the best draw I've ever seen after 3 rounds. Tons of pressure on him as he's now the favorite to reach the semis.
Zverev will probably be eliminated in about 3 hours after I say this but this is his slam to lose. I think he's mentally and physically prepared.
I wonder if American fans are rooting for Fonseca more than the Americans. Kid is likeable. Female fans definitely are lol

And once again all the American men will be long gone by week two at a major. How sad. 23 years now since an American male has won a major tennis tournament. Just sad ..

What "Americans"? You mean the women? There are no American men who play tennis competitively.

You're not wrong but the men have 4 winnable matches tomorrow-well, maybe 3
Would I be shocked if they went 0-4? Nope

Who the f*ck is this clown?

After watching it a few time I can kind of see where he's interacting with his father in the stands as this story explains. Very close though. He's a tall dude so she could get lost next to him. I've seen him in quite a few of lead up clay court matches recently.

Yeah,. the video isn't good for him but I don't think he was trying to push her--who know though
The kid has a very good chance to win or at least make a deep run

But the WAG game is strong.

Eh, she may have tripped too while getting out of his way. Either instance he looks like an ***.

Donald Fagen of Steely Dan had a song that had in its lyrics "All the Americans are gone except for two...".

Which perfectly describes the American men after 3 rounds at every single major tournament 😂

Down goes Tien, Tommy Paul chokes, Taylor Fritz looks like a bellhop, not an athlete, Shelton chokes with a wide open bracket. Only Tiafoe and Svadja remaining and guaranteed they fall by Monday.

I blame Nick Bolliteri and those tennis academies, poor coaching and poor development. McEnroe, Agassi, Sampras, etc, now 25 years ago. An entire generation of awful athletes

Gauff lost. American women 0-3 today. I'm honestly shocked she's has as much success as she has. Maybe Keys can make another run.

Fonseca, Mensik and Jodar all in the quarters with at least one guaranteed to take the semis. Maybe Sinner & Carlos will have some competition over the next decade.
I think Cobolli reaches the final in the top half so bet against him tomorrow

No American women make the quarters
Tiafoe last man standing
I'm probably in the minority that I don't care what country people are from when rooting for people but that's a rough major

Sabalenka vs. Osaka today at 2:15pm (first featured women's evening match since 2023). Should be a good one.
