We've tried old retreads and young comers to no avail. It's time to nuke the college football world and hire the first woman head coach.
6 wins and he is safe, 7 wins, especially with a win over Clemson, and he gets an extension.
Paul Dietzel. Jim Carlen. Joe Morrison. Brad Scott (don’t laugh, he was THE hot commodity at the time). Lou Holtz. Steve Spurrier (if you’re not at least 60 years old you don’t fully appreciate the significance of that one). These are the coaches since I was in high school. And here we are. Six wins and Beamer’s not going anywhere. Some of us are fans of gamecock football; others are fans of results that make them feel good or better than they ordinarily would. There’s enough of the former that will keep this going; those in the latter group seek or expect that which they will not find. Clemson has shown over the years that ‘coaching’ itself is not what pads the W column. We have shown that ‘coaching’ itself doesn’t limit access to the L column.

But seriously, a respected poster here usually chimes in with the notion that we have had the most success with retreads. And he's not wrong.
But if there was a simple formula, everyone would do it, and everyone would be successful. Maybe retreads just fit our position in the SEC better?
When we go looking for another coach, I have just two wishes. I dont want to see us hire a guy that JUST got fired at another job, and I dont want a nepo baby who's never been more than a position coach. That is such a low bar.
All he has to do is not have the worst season in history and he already looks better than the other mens sports programs.

I think he needs to win at least 8 and be in contention for the playoffs going into the 2nd half of the season to be secure for another year or two.
Looking at the schedule I think there are 5 should be wins (Kent State, Towson, MSU, UK, Ark), 5 toss ups (Bama, UF, UT, Okla, Clemson), and 2 losses (TAMU, UGA) based on perceived talent on our team. So win the games youre supposed to and win more than you loose in the toss ups.
I like the guy, but another losing record will be the end of the Beamer era.

Because of the outstanding hires (most likely due Donati's influence) made on the offensive side of the ball(plus we got rid of the worst OL coaches in the country), I believe we are going to win at least 8 games, go cocks! We final have a solod college oc, ol and rb coach!
How hard can it possibly be to make it as successful football coach? Recruit talent, instill discipline and let them play the game.
