Based on DSR, we got the fourth-highest 2 (Tennessee is #17), third-highest 3 (ECU is #32), and fourth-highest 4 of any host in the field.
If you limit it to top-8, we got the highest 2, the highest 3, and highest 4 of any top-8 seed in the field along with the potential highest-ranked Supers match-up (A&M is #7).
Our path is quantitatively harder than any top-8 seed. By a lot.

A few ECU fans have said that Towers has been their Friday night starter for awhile. He might be going up against Tennessee.

Since we are #5, we should have gotten #28 for our 2-seed, instead we got a Top 25 TN team. ECU should be the 2 seed at UCLA.
The scumbags running college baseball help the SEC and west coast schools every damn year. Time for investigations given the SEC makes TV money with their baseball on espn.
One thing I'll add is that I think it's somewhat good for the host for the 3 seed to be a good team. It usually forces the 2 seed to throw their best in game 1.

Hello heels. Mack is very questionable and likely out. We don’t have a game three starter ATM.
We both got screwed here. We should be at USM or Lawerence. And whoever wins has to out slug the Aggies.
Bats are hot but means nothing on Friday. Last I looked our BA was a good bit higher vs lefty arms. Our pictures have given up a lot of long balls. Not sure the dimensions of your park.

It’s been a very weird year for us. We played much better vs better competition than we did vs bottom half of SEC.
We won 5/10 series going 15-15

Very Jekyll and Hyde team. Some bad pitching management at times. First year head skipper leaning on the job Etc. We have no pitching depth.
Said this yesterday, the 2 seed is always going to be a good team unless you get a really good draw. What matter most is the 3 seed being good enough and having a real #1 to force #2 to throw their #1. Also said, that having a fairly bad #4 was key.. we didn’t get lucky there.
The more research I do, I prefer having Tennessee as the 2 over Coastal (even if Coastal has been playing poor). Low OBP, high power offense compared to Coastal who is a lot of contact, working counts and making you execute for 9 innings. High-end pitching but not a ton of depth.

Big moment here for the “ESPN controls everything” contingent— Selection committee chair mentions “working with ESPN” in response to a question about seeding 1-32, saying now Friday night matchups are interesting. But seeding 1-32 doesn’t touch the Friday games and why is ESPN in the seeding discussion.
Some of these Answers are incoherent. It’s all so clearly post hoc justification for protecting SEC interests. “We rewarded Kansas who had a great season” with a 15 seed and Arkansas as their 2.
Our ballpark will hold a lot of the fly balls that get over the wall in Knoxville.
As I argued with somebody who says we would have been top 3 or something with a win yesterday, I still think we’d have ended up in the same spot. They needed a non-SEC team in the 5-8 group. They decided what they wanted and worked backwards to justify it.
Kind of what I think. Similar to GT series, whose offense is much better overall.
We
got the toughest regional. I’m encouraged that our offense has picked up though. It is kinda hard to understand how the number two team in the country can lose to the #3 team, a team it beat twice, winning their series during the regular season and drop all way #5 and somebody that didn’t win their conference could jump all the way up to the fourth slot. Call it what it is, it’s SEC bias and I think they really want to make it tough for anyone not named Georgia Tech from the ACC.
Thankfully he won’t be pitching against Colby Wilkerson and Alberto Osuna again

Huh? You don't think UC-Santa Barbara, Tarleton State, and Holy Cross are tougher than Tennessee, ECU, and VCU? The #5 seed faces a ranked P4 team and the #6 seed doesn't. I'm shocked.

We pitched Duff against them in a midweek and he got roughed up. It was early tho. But still…
Midweek. And they roughed up McDuffie. They’ll have their best on the mound, not midweek starter. It will be a tough game. And it shouldn’t be…
