Think 9 is about right. Southern Miss was ranked No. 8 prior to the tournament and had a Top 12 RPI. They’ve been one of the hottest teams in the country lately and are playing as well as anyone right now. Hard to argue they aren’t the best baseball team in the state at the moment.
Hottest? Easy to be hot when your competition sucks. The haven't played a good team in quite a while.

Committee did a nice job with the seeding IMO. I don't even have qualms with USM. They had a really nice season.
USM is solid no question, just not an overall 9 seed. And would've taken the two seed in Hattiesburg before the brackets were announced.

This. I mean in context I don't think anyone can say "overall" that USM is better than A&M, which were a few seeds worse

Yes, hottest. They’ve beaten the teams in front of them. You can make fun of the competition if you want, but when they’ve played good teams, they’ve won most of those games too. Guess the question is, how would you feel if we were in their bracket?

Congrats on hosting in Oak’s first year. I didn’t understand all the strays that USM was catching from State fans on social media and message boards. We were never in competition with yall for a host spot. I always thought it was pretty obvious that KU and WVU were the weaker hosts. Was a little surprised at Oregon at 11.
Back handed we are so much better than you we weren’t competing for host spot. Nice.

Is AI now picking the brackets? Very little storyline matchups. Going just by the numbers it appears.

As it should be. They definitely go with geography when they can.

Still some good setups. 3 former PAC teams in Oregon and in state rivals.

USC at TAMU could be fun.

There are a lot of bordering state teams paired up in regionals even if they aren't traditional conference rivals.

No, that’s not what I meant at all. I believed our host profile was objectively better, and the committee agreed. I also always thought State was a safe host at somewhere between 12-14. If State and USM played a 3 game series, I’m not sure who would win. Maybe 60/40 State.

Our bracket has a one seed that was nearly a 2 seed, and a 3 seed that was nearly a 2 seed. Lots of “pretty good” in our bracket.

USM #9 is a joke. I’ve got no problem with them hosting but they should be in the 13-16 range.

If we couldn’t host, I’d feel pretty good about going to Hattiesburg, Oregon, or Lincoln.

Yeah, those aren’t good teams.

I don't understand when you say stuff like this. If a team is an at large in the NCAA tournament they are clearly a good college baseball team considering how many teams play in D1.

Teams in the Top 16 are elite or very good, and then there are plenty of good teams who can occasionally beat the Top 16 teams.

Well they don’t suck for sure. But I don’t think they’d finish in top 10 of the sec.

I feel good about TV vs either Saturday. Not sure I feel good about Stone vs anybody Sunday. But we should hopefully have a lot of arms available to bullpen it.

I really hope Oak holds TV. Be interesting to see his moves this weekend. I expect to like them better than the most recent MSU HC.

He’s done it at least twice recently at Virginia. And I can’t imagine a situation where it’s more needed to hold your #1 starter than this regional. I’ll be shocked if TV starts Friday. And extremely disappointed.

Don’t forget patdog’s from Jones County

There’s a lot of longtime awareness of Southern Miss — and maybe a little disparagement — going on which I understand quite well since I also grew up with quite a few Southern Miss fans as well as Ole Miss fans who loved to be sidewalk Eagles…

It’s very much a Pine Belt thing

I’m a State fan first but I’ve become more friendlier to the Eagles since Southern Miss offers the degree in my profession…

USM has played 1 game against a top 30 RPI team since March 24th (Ole Miss on 4/14)

USM is a good baseball and should probably host, but they would be 13-15 if their AD was not on the committee.

Truth be told - we probably would not be hosting if Strickin & Alford weren't on the committee.

I think they kinda benefitted from Coastal getting underseeded last year. Coastal went out and proved they should've been about an 8 last season.

I really don't mind a Mississippi school possibly getting over seeded. We take enough **** nationally as it is. And they absolutely performed against the good teams they played out of conference. 2-2 against us and OM. Run ruled Alabama before anybody knew how good Bama was. 2 of 3 vs UCSB. Beat Oregon State.

They are playing Sunbelt teams as well as any Sunbelt team in the country right now.

Maybe I'm wrong, but I'd much rather play UGA than GT.

If we get there let's see how many HRs we can hit in their launching pad.
Why? GT may be better but we are 0-4 against UGA. MSU lost to them at home and at a neutral site so going to their place doesn't give me any warm and fuzzy feeling.

All 4 games were close. One big swing or better pitch and we split with them.

GT is much scarier to me.
