I refuse to pay at the pump. I only go to stations that let me pump gas before I pay Inside.

I am curious about this stance. For what reasons do you refuse to pay at the pump? I ask as someone who has not stepped a foot inside a gas station in maybe 25 years.
The two times my debit card has been hacked has been at a gas pump. Plus I'm old school and don't want to be treated like a criminal and be forced to pay first.
Two options here. Live in an area where EBT people can’t afford to shop. Or have your groceries delivered via Instacart, Whole Foods prime, etc. We choose both.
The gas station in my town is that way. Its funny to watch out of towners try to figure out what's going on, then walk in to ask for help.
Cant be many places that allow you to pump before you pay these days.
There's an app for that. And you don't "pay first" ... you just get authorized first, and then you're paying as you go.
Don't be the guy who holds up the queue as everyone waits for you to stumble into the building, and stumble back out. Those people also tend to disappear for 5 minutes, really holding things up.

Aside from getting cash at an ATM, I can’t think of a single use case for a debit card. Eager to hear this fella’s reason though. I’m sure it will make a ton of logical financial sense.

Like other posters, I also wonder what leads you to choose to use a debit card at a gas pump. I don’t recall using a debit card anywhere other than an ATM machine at any point in the 21st century.
My oldest boy graduated last week. My mother and father in law wanted us to take a picture I stood there with wife and the boys for what had to be 90 seconds while both of them tried to figure out how to use their phone cameras. Why does everything bad happen to me?

Well In Iowa my debit card is also a credit card. I haven't found a gas pump that will let me shove cash in it.

The reason you typically need to pay first is the same reason your debit card was hacked: many people are thieves.
We call debit cards "Jones County Credit Cards" around these parts.
