I’m eager for the day when sports gambling is socially shunned again. I’m tired of being inundated with gambling ads every time I watch literally anything

2018 tOSU vs PSU gets my vote. Hands down the best match I ever saw. That had to have been a long, quiet bus ride back to Columbus.
You and Shane are not wrong. I don't know if that match will ever be surpassed. The energy of the crowd during the third period of Nevills/Snyder could have launched a rocket into outer space. The Nickel pin of Martin at Nationals was a thunderbolt but the February match was a two hour series of thunderbolts.

I’ve been going to Rec Hall since 1966. I’ve seen the thick, the thin, and everything in between. The Red Robe dual of 2018 was the very tip top for excitement. The fact that we were the underdog adds to the remembrance. It was like a big iron block running about 500 rpm over the red line for 2 hours. You really can’t exaggerate how great that dual was.

There were many electrifying moments in that dual. Hard to pick a favorite, but in setting the tone, you can’t beat the first:

The Bucknuts thought they brought Hell with then on that fancy bus. If they did, Hell had its own ideas about what happened next.

Makes me wonder how, if during the covid year, we had nationals Iowa might not have won , theoretically.

Penn State woukd have won if the tournament had been wrestled.
I wouldn’t put it past us. We had them in the dual if Hall hadn’t gotten over amped and gassed against Kemerer.

They gapped us pretty handily at Big 10s, but that was to be expected as that compressed tournament hurts top heavy teams - which we most assuredly were. But our high placers were still going to place high at NCAAs while their more solid team across the board would see their 3rd/4th place winners at Big 10s scoring 10-12 points there scoring 2-3 pts as round of 12 guys at Nationals.

Their comparatively better team in 2021 only beat us by 15.5 and that would have shrunk more if the Ivies had participated

I think you guys not having Cassar would have doomed you.

Obviously, would have been close as you guys always do better at NCAAs

On 13th look… this is one of the greatest big ten brackets of all time.

9 #1 seeds and all 10 matches wrestled in the finals.

I did tbe math once. Off the top of my head it was something like a 3-5% chance of PSU winning.

Marinelli as a finalist? This is my point. For Iowa to win that year Iowa was counting on their guys to achieve at levels Iowa wrestlers don't achieve at, and counting on PSU wrestlers to not do what they commonly do, achieve at higher levels than anticipated.
Iowa probably has 2 finalists and 6 AAs. PSU probably has the 4 finalists and 6 AAs.

You already listed 5, I would add Rasheed. I don't know if he was healthy enough to get it done, but at the Big10s he was good enough to beat Warner in the QFs and lost to Shultz by a point in the SFs.
I think Rasheed fully expected to win the title. It would not have shocked me if he succeeded. James English also expected to win the title, and he came pretty close, relatively speaking.
