His family reported that he had been hospitalized with a severe illness.
I did read that he had a sinus inflection for a while and needed medical care after the Watkins Glen race.
Given the limited information, a pulmonary embolism resulting in lung tissue death is possible. However, venous blood clots cannot pass through the lungs and travel to the brain. The NASCAR community should stick to what they know best if they are circulating that rumor.
