If Tavion Banks returns in 2026-27, we would have 0 Open Roster Spots (14 players are officially signed)

You look at the lack of scoring coming back and it’s pretty alarming. Koch improved a ton as the season went on. I’ve watched enough of Cam at Drake and here to see he’s not going to score. Thompson and Harris are going to have to immediately be able to put the ball in the hoop. Not much firepower coming back.
Cam has great athleticism. Maybe Frank Garza could take him through the Luka regimen this summer.

Trey's offense is supposed to be really good, but that's only been shown in practice.

Ben must be comfortable enough that we can score enough; it will be interesting to see who makes the jump and increases their scoring average. Hopefully its several. I just hope we don't get hurt too badly by not having a returning elite scorer.

IDK how it will shake out, of course, but when you have a legit star on the team it sometimes allows the other guys to defer too much to him. We saw some it with Garza and the Murray's - too many guys waiting for the star to do something. Now, I'm NOT saying they will be better without Bennett, but I do think the other guys will know that they have to pick up some of the slack.

The Hawks slow it down and eat clock, I get that. But there were an awful lot of times when the shot clock was running out and BS ended up taking a bad shot because no one else would. I think AF was particularly guilty of making passes to BS with less than 5 seconds on the clock when he should have taken the shot himself.

I guess we'll see .....

I don't think the pace next year will be quite as slow as it was. As you said, the ball often ended up back in Bennett's hands and he ended up having to create something with the shot clock running out.

Iowa will still run its offense and look for a good shot - Ben's teams will never play what we consider up tempo IMO, but without Stirtz, I look for a more balanced attack next year, which might end up with more shots being taken earlier in the shot clock if there are more guys looking for a shot. Maybe the tempo will be 200-250'ish instead of 360? I could be totally wrong on all this, but I'll make that my prediction.

Just checked for any TB info. None that I could see. Guess he's waiting to see what happens post-draft. Don't know of any workouts involving him. Are you hearing anything @Franisdaman?

I haven't seen anything regarding Tavion Banks' status.
I think that the only hope for Banks is to be invited to the Summer League which starts in July, following the Draft next month. Didn't Jarrod play in the Summer League after going undrafted? Banks is not coming back. My guess is that his agent has been on the phone quite a bit since the end of the season. :)

I think just the opposite, he will be back once the NCAA clears him

Great to hear Ben is feeling we're heading in the right direction. A certain dork on this board always grilled me for saying McCollum was limited in what he was working with regarding the roster due to having limited time in the off season, and that it will take time to get to where he wants the program to be. Ben's quote here confirms that notion. He's beginning to get more comfortable and has begun to create a foundation for the program.

No, you got "grilled" for saying Ben didn't have a full off-season last year, when he did. He was hired before (or maybe the day) the portal opened, and while other teams were still playing ball.

And you, and others got corrected when saying Ben was "limited" with what he could build his roster with, as you are saying again now.

At the point of his hire, he inherited a full roster of potentially returning Hawkeyes with an incoming class. So, unless you believe each and every one of them chose to leave on his own, Ben was the one who limited himself.

It was his first roster build at this level, and he made it work. But it appeared he made a miscalculation at some point in the roster build. Certainly, Ben would tell you it wasn't the roster he envisioned, as he attempted to bring in another guard, that for whatever reason only lasted a few days.

Read better. And try not to mischaracterize, although I know that's pretty much impossible for you
