Too bad the Hawks couldn't get in on Quentin Burrell. WR committed to Michigan.

Played with his dad, Aaron, in CR. A Rolls-Royce of an athlete, with great intelligence and instincts. Played on the '95 Norhtwestern rose bowl team. Class man.

Athletic family. Uncle, Geoff played for the Hawks in the early '90's. And Doug Burrell, who is also an uncle, iirc, played on the '86 Hawkeye rose bowl team.

Too good of a family for Quentin to want to spend much time at a place like Michigan. So maybe we'll see him in IC, down the road

Doug Burrell rings a bell. Was he a reserve defensive end in Bill Brashier's old 5-2?

No reason to share this story, other than it's a pretty cool story, and the Burrell's were some large men.

Had a road hoops game at Dubuque Wahlert. Played in the soph game and was in the stands for the varsity game, in which Aaron was playing in, as a soph.

Wash's PG was Dedric Ward. Probably could have been a big ten PG, had that been his sport. But ended up playing for the Jets and Pats in the NFL.

Anyway, Dedric made one of the best plays I've ever seen, in person. In a key moment, as I recall, of what would end up a Wash victory, he willed himself into a blur, to poke the ball from behind a Wahlert guard. Just as he was trying to gain possession, he went into a slide to try to immediately change directions. And ended up sliding across the court, just inside the sideline, with the ball. But the amazing part was, Dedric was able to dribble the ball while he was sliding across the floor. He was then able to regain his feet, with the dribble, and advance the ball for an assist, if I remember correctly.

It was an absolute breathtaking play, in what had already become a hostile environment. Some of the home fans had become a little agitated that the team with some "colored" guys were beating their team. After Dedric's (black) steal, they lost their minds calling for a travel.

Anyway, after taking the L, Wahlert fans, the sports, lined across the court to prevent Wash fans from leaving the gym. I'm sure it was probably just some punk kids from the student section.

But there was always a group of Burrell's (black) at Aaron's games. And the instant they came out of the stands, hit the floor, and turned towards the Wahlert Wall, it parted like the Red Sea. 🤣 The Burrell's were some large men

I would say based on the fact he is from Michigan and that two Michigan schools AND Penn State are after him, that it is a longshot. but we have pulled a few rabbits out of the hat before. Just don't getyour hopes up, is what I am saying.
