Any of you that talk to Willie on here or spend a dime on anything he does should look back a few years to what I said I witnessed him doing in Oklahoma City when he worked for Flo. He cheered every time an Iowa wrestler lost. He tried to justify it by saying he didn't cheer when Mike Evans lost. Evans is from Pennsylvania. He is absolutely an Iowa hater and Penn State promoter. Why would any Iowa wrestling fan give a guy that is absolutely against us and for our biggest rival anything?

Thanks, I was just interested with all the views you share. While you may have a view that it shouldn't matter much, on some things I think knowing the level of success someone has does come into play (at least in my mind). Kind of the:
"You don't know if you don't know". Appreciate the response.
I have been in many of the very best rooms in the country and wrestled in many of the toughest tournaments there are. I have wrestled with and against some of the very best as well. Trust me, you can not fully reach the top, while knowing what it takes to get there. In fact, I would argue strongly that those that didn’t quite get there can be even better coaches because they often spend/spent so much time analyzing what they were lacking and trying to improve it.

Now, that doesn’t mean some of the very best can’t coach just as well. I have just found that many that NATURALLY excelled at wrestling often take for granted the things that made them great, while others simply could never do it the way they did no matter how well they are coached…

I have many times seen something similar in the business world, FWIW. The best doers aren't always the best managers, and vice versa. Sometimes they are, sure, But the skills are different and not everyone is blessed with both.

I just remember seeing pictures of his face that were horrifying. Strange to come out of high school with a nice complexion and have that happen in college. If your going to have bad acne, you develop it in middle or high school.
Wow, education and knowledge run rampant in this one.

It was said that one of the primary reasons that Ted Williams was unsuccessful as a baseball manager is that he could not understand why the game didn't come as easily to others as it did for him. He had little tolerance for those who struggled. Being great at something and being able to be a great teacher of that skill do not always go hand in hand.

And your schtick has ran its course - it's been getting old for awhile now. The decent threads we have on this site get derailed because you can't control your fingers and you don't know when to stop.

It's old. Take a break from it. Every time you want to try to get a rise out of someone on here, put a quarter in a jar; it will fill up quickly and you will save most on here the eye roll each time we see that you've posted. it's old man.
There aren't any decent threads on this forum. The Penn State trolls and lack of moderation ensure that.

He was actually giving you a positive comment about "not cheering" when Mike Evans lost. Meaning that at least you liked him. See that is the problem with you, Willie. You often read something, get pissed, and then not really understand the full meaning of the original comment. Or the fact it was not even intended for you because it was a response to someone else. You bring a lot of this on yourself when you use terms like "you all", "this Board" and lumping everyone in on what really is a pissing match between you and a couple of posters. Don't for one second try to play the part of an innocent victim in the name calling crap either.

I think we all understand that the level of accomplishments/accolades isn't a "must" in order to be successful. I can't even remember what comment(s) I was reading from you that made me wonder what your level of success was in the sport. I think it dealt with your take that most of us that don't like the "fall" of the program isn't as bad as we think or we should be more grateful for what we still have. We are a top tier program but we're not THE top tier program. And I'm going to talk out of both sides of my mouth here but I completely respect what every Hawkeye wrestler has given to the program, I never got close to even what the "room guys" have accomplished. I think like most, there are many problems/factors that need to be addressed and also feel like I understand most of the "advantages" other programs (that are ahead of us) have over us. I know there are logical reasons of why the program isn't winning "like the old days."

BUT as someone else then wrote....losing like this (and this much) isn't acceptable for Iowa Wrestling! Point blank, that's just not the standard. The standard is the standard....."The Iowa Way". It's "sad" that it's that way but Gable set the standard and those that follow have to uphold it. "Excuses are for wussies". I'm sure TnT would agree. I love TnT, I'm not even saying they should be replaced...but they aren't upholding the standard and if they can't get us going upward (sooner than later) then they need to be replaced. Lets be honest, if we don't get it going...it's going to continue to get harder and harder to right the ship.

I respect, admire, and am grateful for all the effort every coach puts into the program and can still think changes need to be made. As they say, "business is business". That is, if you have that sort of mindset...which many do.

All that to say, I'll be here probably bi*ching and cheering every damn match and wishing for 10 national champions....as a fatter, washed up wrestler and coach that couldn't do any better. In the end I try and remind myself that I really can't judge someone/something unless I've been in the exact situation.

touche, touche. i didn't read that thoroughly.

but that's a new one. 'i defended myself by saying 'i didn't cheer against Evans''. lmfao
You cheered when Iowa lost and back then I thought you were a journalist. I pointed it out to the other guys I was with. I thought is was classless. When I brought it up back then you said the thing about Mike Evans and that you and his family were close. That doesn't change the fact that you were cheering for PSU and cheered every time an Iowa guy lost, except for Evans.

Yikes. He seemed like one of the most straight laced guys on and around the mat. He was also one of the most dangerous guys on bottom(no pun intended). He actually created most of his offense while being ridden to the point that most of his opponents caught wind of it and really didn't try to ride him all that hard.

It is sad that you can let those types of urges cloud your judgement so badly to not only seriously damage the victim, but almost certainly ruin the rest of your life..

i don't think anyone hates his wrestling takes.

disagree with his takes, sure.

what everyone hates is his posting frequency/length/rhetoric.

get a grip and get a life. for two days the top two threads on this site were him having a unrelenting 'me' show.
I hate stupid, and MSU has more of it than anyone else in these forums.

Quick note on MSU158: good guy, knowledgeable, wrestling fan. I disagree with his opinion of what constitutes acceptable performance by Iowa, and I think he drives his points into the ground by repeating them over and over. But the first sentence is the key with him. MSU is just an opinionated wrestling fan, which is exactly what most of us are. No beef with him.

For me, it isnt his opinions that cause issues......its his proliferation of posts that caused me to finally put him on ignore.

It is definitely mostly due to my own creation, but nearly every time I do back off an argument, a new person jumps in. I am simply not wired to allow separate drive-bys and idly sit by. Someone comes at me, I come at them harder, no matter the environment. That is simply how I was brought up. Show me respect, I will show you the utmost respect. Show me the opposite and I will respond at the same magnitude in the reverse.

Still, I do everything I can to try not to make it personal. We(the Universal We) don't know each other near well enough to do so. But, every once in a while there are posts that make that very hard...
