Back in the late 80's at PGA National, we were closing up for the night and got a call from the PBCSO. 2 drunk German hotel guests took one of our golf carts to the airport on I-95. Made it to Blue Heron Blvd.
I have actually seen almost identical things in both the Walmart on Ritchie Hwy in Pasadena MD and in West Baltimore
My parents lived at PGA National at that time. I don't remember them telling me about that story, but probably because they thought it was so stupid it wasn't worth mentioning. They had a place there from 1981 to 2007.
That was the busiest golf resort in the USA at that time - as well as a burgeoning development. The General or Palmer wasn't even developed at that time. Not a house on the course. Crazy stuff happened constantly. I should have written a book about all I witnessed in 7 years.
It was a super fun time that I wouldn't trade for anything though. Met many lifelong friends working there and left as the #1 Assistant in charge of the Champion course.
The Champ. What an easy course! LOL.
So easy that the touring pros complained it was unfair and they changed a couple holes to make them a little less difficult. I played ita few times and it destroyed me.
My father used to work in scoring at all the tournaments as a volunteer. He was a member. That's why I got to play all 4 courses. The General was my favorite followed by the Haig.
I thought the Champ was harder before Jack redesigned it (when I left). Fazio did it originally and it wasn't the water hazard torture chamber it is now. It was the rough. I remember an approach I hit bouncing past the pin over #9 green. It barely got through the fringe and we couldn't find it.
In 87 (the redesign was in 92 I think) minus 1's played off for the PGA Championship there. Lanny Wadkins and Larry Nelson. Nelson won.
Greg Norman finished +21 for the tournament - somehow making the cut.
