I'll come out and say I was one of them. I didn't think he fit Mark Pope's offense because he couldn't shoot the 3 well. But I knew he was a very solid player. I just didn't think he fit with Pope's 3 point heavy offense. He really improved from deep while at UK.
About Butler. Absolutely
im not claiming I knew he was going to be really good but in retrospect, I’d take a healthy Butler every year.
Really? That surprises me. I’d take a guy with his postseason resume and defensive acumen any day of the week.

Yea I liked where he was coming from when he did that but it reeks of inexperience. Bad look. Hard to take him serious after that. Not about Butler, I meant the team as a whole. Argument would be if we DID have a PG better than him (in addition to him, not replacing him), the team would have done better. So the "doubters" would be correct there.
Not doubting ANYTHING about Butler, guy was a true warrior and quintessential Cat. Anyone who shows out against UL is a cat -- reminds me of when Dom Hawkins lit them up out the blue.
I think the roster is a hell of a lot better than quite a few on here think it is. Pope has never had 2 PG that could create like these 2, they can both get to the rim & also create open looks for others. Pope knows how to run offense & Mo will work with all of the guards. How many titles did 5* players get us? Had it not been for getting AD, Calipari's coaching would've did us in more than likely. Mo got here late, he will be able to get us some talent in the future imo.

Our real only two hopes are Hawthorne is really good. Top 50 out of high school.

Mo Williams was 55-55 against non-Power 5 conference opponents at both Alabama State and Jackson State. That's a necessary distinction. As a member of the SWAC he took on a lot of guaranteed losses for guaranteed money to help try and build those schools athletic programs monetarily. His teams were 14-54 against the P5. In the SWAC he was 59-49 over 6 seasons. At Jackson State his conference record was 47-25.
Also, the guy played in the NBA. He obviously knows talent. Don't confuse taking two jobs at HBCU's with not knowing talent or being able to coach basketball. He took those jobs wanting to give back to his community. Had Pope not offered him a job at Kentucky as an assistant he'd still be at Jackson State. He coached 2 SWAC players of the year, a defensive player of the year, and a freshmen of the year(hints that he knows a litle more about talent than some would want others to believe) in 6 seasons as a HC.
