Don't see a downside here. We needed a back up center, we got a serviceable one. We weren't getting Hakeem the Dream to come here as a backup to Moreno. Big body , strong lots of experience, I don't see the problem .

I’m behind Pooe as long as he’s the coach of my favorite team, but he must improve in all areas if he expects to hang around very long.And if he does and the kid improves, the narrative will be that he was good before he got here.

Cal went to an NIT, had the worst season in UK history and the 2 worst NCAAT losses in UK history, plus, how can a 50 year fan ever forget about "Kentucky Shame" that damn near could have been the death penalty? He doesn't need shooting from the 5, Amari couldn't hit the broad side of a barn. He needs an elite rim protector, rebounder and guy to lob the ball to.

We are signing an elite rim protector as a BACKUP five. It’s really not a bad pickup. Injury concerns? You betcha, but he isn’t coming to start or play heavy minutes anyway. You have Potter as a third string big for emergency situations. If you have complaints about the roster I hear you but this selection isn’t the one to crow about imo.
I said it a few times but it doesn’t really matter. There is a reason Jacob reported the same thing, because that’s what the staff said. Props to Dylan and let’s hope Kepnang can stay healthy for us, him and Moreno together make a complete 5. Will be good for Moreno in practice to face that physicality as well. Now we must retain Moreno.
Again this does not mean Moreno is leaving,this is not bad news ,I suppose he could,but the staff don't think so ,Kepnak is a back up ,The Staff believes Moreno will return

I LOVE this signing. Waiver scares me more than anything- and there is some pretty similar precedent set bc the ncaa clearly dgaf and trying to make product competitive wo lifting a finger.
Ky won 3 NCAA Tournament games the last 2 years with injured squads & almost all new players. Pope will win at least 24 games this year & be our coach this time next year.
I think this new team will be fun to watch & deep at all positions. We might see a 7 ft average front wall at the 3 - 4 - 5 at times this year with two 6’5” guards . This is going to be a fun year to watch .
I don’t like Pope’s sub patterns & game management but I do like Mo helping him with that.

the downside is that he gets denied in 4 months and now no one is available to play back up center. you honestly dont consider a likely scenario as a downside vs taking someone with no eligibility issues....

Does anybody recall that Cal recruited Franck to UK? He did. Im not sure who dumped who, I think we were a finalist and Kepnang chose Oregon. Could have been different idk.
You have to be able to shoot to be called a stretch 5; BG was just a slightly undersized center...who couldn't shoot.
I stand by my post and assessment of the present state of the program.
It funny, no one has ever claimed my lip quivers to my face. Only on Rupp Rafters do people personally attack others hiding behind a keyboard.
If you can’t stand criticism of the state of the program, block me. I could care less.
Because I will continue to criticize Pope, administration moving forward until the UK program returns to being competitive and in the national championship conversation.
I nor you know the details of his proposed waiver. Obviously Pope, the agent, the player and whoever does NCAA compliance for us seems to think he will get one. I will chose to look at the positive until I have a LEGITIMATE REASON not too.
16-57 for 28% from 3 while at UK.
Im not saying that’s great, but I am saying he thinks he is a stretch 5.
I agree that he needs those things & even said that. But, it’s apples & oranges & not necessarily just about Kepnang. He absolutely does need shooting from the 5 for the zoom action to be at its best. Ideally, the 5 would also be a smart player who can pass & handle the ball. He could get by without it if he had multiple shooters around the center who also bought into the scheme.
Amari was surrounded by experienced guys who were ideal for Pope’s system. He did a great job putting that roster together so quickly. This team doesn’t look like the pieces are gonna fit so well like his first team, unless some of these guys become different players by November.
Amari was also a solid ball handler & a next level passer, essentially an extra PG on the floor. That helps negate the lack of spacing from poor shooting. We don’t really get ANY of that from the 5s on the roster. And, there’s no Brea or any other knockdown shooter on the floor to help compensate either.
I’m not saying I don’t like this guy or that he can’t help. I think every player we have is really good. I just question their fits with the system & with each other. Feels like he’s recruiting for bizarro zoom action. For the record, I’m sick of seeing us getting pushed around the last two years & welcome a guy like Kepnang. If the pieces around him were different I’d have no questions, whatsoever.
