Theres one more option..... let Vega go 49 this year then shirt him and bulk him to 65. He has the height and was a little over 160 in the off season although he's not very heavy currently. I just dont see Landon moving up.

And yes Im aware Vega losing his height advantage w/ his style could be a thing but its still an option.
I thought redshirts were gonna be done with soon?

As is, he could go 165 and be fine. He would easily AA. He would dang sure give us more points than our 165 pounder this last year gave us. But I agree that it isn't his ideal weight and asking him to wrestle there would be asking him to make a massive sacrifice.

I was just making the point that if you were forced to wrestle your best lineup with both Raneys in it, this is what you would do.
You can no more be certain that the Raney's will excel as freshmen and form part of our best lineup than you could say that about Dee Lockett 12 months ago. The benefit of hindsight doesn't make this statement some sure thing.

I should have been more clear. I have no idea if either/both of the Raneys are good enough to crack the lineup as true freshmen. They will have to prove a lot in whatever opportunities they are given.

I was just speculating on how you would structure a lineup in a hypothetical world where both Raneys are in the lineup.

why wouldn’t Landon move up? Just curious. I don’t know anything about projecting weights.

He’s not that short and he is also not thick. He is muscular with serious core mass, but not what I’d call thick.

I’d guess he’s 5’8 or 5’9? Maybe not?
OK, let me be more precise. If you lined up all the 157lbers from last year, Landon would be below the average in height. He is strong as a bull - he has a lot more muscle than height, he is not at all long and lean for 157. He's also not heavy for the weight. At 165 he would give up even more height and weight. 157 is definitely his best weight.

Yeah, I agree. 70kg is “tougher” to make…obviously, but not terrible.
