-If Potter wasn't from Kentucky would you still want him over Brandon Garrison? As a freshman at Big 12 Oklahoma State, Garrison had better stats than Reece Potter ever did at MAC Miami of Ohio.

-There’s been several Kentucky-born kids that have been really good. HOWEVER, typically they leave to go to better programs (D'Angelo Russell, Jasper Johnson,Taylin Kinney, Tyron Stokes, etc.). They don't stick around to play against Kentucky schools, due to the lack of talent in the state. Reed and Malachi are the first McDonald's All-American from the state to spend all four years in the state since Scotty Hopson (2008).
I remember being pissed we didn’t land Hopson since I thought he was a baller and we have a similar last name. He never really turned into anything special at Tennessee jf my memory is correct. Wasn’t he like a top 10 5 star?

The RP that played at Miami of Ohio will not be the one at UK next year. 1/12 years of good nutrition and muscle building will make him stronger. Now his skill level has three pluses 7’2”. You can’t teach, good hands, and can shot the 3 close to 40%. Kentucky is not for everyone but in his case he ha 2 choices, sit at Miami or try for the big time.. Be an inspiration instead of an afterthought. He’s not here for money, he’s here for us. Rember that BBN
I certainly hope he grows into an impact player but if the staff thought he was a legit backup center next year Pope wouldn’t be flying to Israel to recruit one

Difference is Potter won’t have someone to motivate him and Pope will be content with whatever work spotter puts into it. Let’s pray the team and Potter are self motivated players

Excellent question:

His first year at Miami of Ohio, he was tenth on the team in minutes per game.

His sophomore year at Miami of Ohio, he was eighth on the team in minutes per game.

I guess you could accurately state “in the extended rotation.” At a MAC school.
14 minutes his frosh year. Over 17 his sophomore year. He will be in his fourth year. Is he a P4 starter? Likely not. Can he give you 12 minutes per game. That would be ideal. Kind of like Jasper Johnson. Heck, Johnson only got 15 minutes per game in FIBA comp on a team of like age players and people thought he was coming here to be a star in year one. Having Reece on the team may be a great addition if he can give some quality relief to Mal Moreno.

Many here are living in a fog or dream world. They want 5 stars to back up 5 stars. That was 96 not under NIL in 2026. Just think how desperate LSU must be with only one person and no center, period. . 6’8” center in the SEC starting.

Now do Duke…

Yeah, not for players that want to win anything that matters in the present day. And ur ok with that.
Jesus man let up. Exhausting. Give him a chance to show what he can do in his back up role. He got some skill. Hometown kid. Easy to pull for.
15 guys .. not every one is a starter. I’m glad we got him.
Take next year off and find a couple hobbies or a team that fits your eye.
