Compared to last season's team we're the same or better at the 1, MUCH BETTER at the 2, the same or better at the 3, the same or better at the 5, and a big question mark at the 4. It would be a perfect world if Woliczko were already much better than Hannah in her freshman year, but there's no way to know if she will be. Amari Whiting as the sixth player coming off the bench could also be better or much better than Deal. Houston would be the same or better as 7th player, Hays would be the same or better as 8th player. The team would be perfect add three more players (12 players): one more PG who could play 10-15 minutes coming off the bench, a 6-0 or 6-1 wing with a great 3-point shot, and a 6-3 or 6-4 PF/C as a bench option in case Woliczko or Hays underperform. We're doing very well, but we can do even better. We're almost there.
Our record might not show it - meaning we might get sniped a time or two in the BIG, but I am very confident next year’s team would beat this year’s team.

I was just thinking. When was the last time an Iowa basketball team only had one player from Iowa on it? With 3 players from the state of Georgia, is anybody else thinking that Barrett was a pretty good hire?
As "CEO" coaching decisions go, it was a very smart, intuitive hire. Jensen didn't just luck into this new doorway. She knew if Iowa was going to have any shot with the southern region of talent, this was the path.

Deal will be fine, will be better, and mostly from experience rather than system. Just watching the USC game again and you can easily see why she was likely told they were bringing in talent, so Deal did what she had to do to play the minutes she hopes for.

I fully expect the Iowa guard court to be right in her grill when she has the ball. The "system" won't matter at that moment.
Deal, like many fans, thought she would be a day one starter. I thought she would compete for a starting spot and have one by year’s end. Nope.

Yes, but not really apples to apples. At least two of our newbies could start while none of them who left were going to start largely due to depth.
Yep.
Terrible comparison trying to support an argument.
The portal adds were brought in to replace the starters(HS/KF).
Not the 9-11 bench players.

Maybe he was being sarcastic?😁😁😁

I think the battle for the 3 and 4 starters will be fascinating. It will also be a reflection of Style of play and how players developed during the offseason.

That's how I feel when people say any guard can be a point guard when Chit Chat can't play or is on the bench. And reading that about a team that had the greatest point guard of all time sounds even worse to me. I simply don't see any team, not even HS Team, that only has one true point guard on its roster. It's shocking to see that many people think it's okay for a team like Iowa to only have one true point guard on its roster.

Weird. First you're completely obsessed with Deal, and now you're obsessed with me too. How are your Badgers looking this year with their new prima donna?
You keep responding. It’s called insecurity.

Prima Donna? You keep outing yourself as player hater. Stop disparaging players. Just sad especially assuming you’re an “adult.”

How is TS offseason going?

Chad L of DMR hinting a 10th incoming player. He even says it could happen by the time you listen to this @ 37:10.

He wasn't saying that at all. He said they were "maybe optimistic about a tenth," and then as a joking aside said, "maybe even by the time you listen to this." So, he is really just saying they are optimistic about another player, but there is no actual timeline known for when that would happen.

Yep another poster hitting the ignore list. Whether angry, off his meds or a troll, there is no valid discussion there to be had right now. These boards have to be able to put these posters in a time out box or ban them. Otherwise we just have to ignore them.
Awwww, gee Bunsen burner 82, dont take your ball and go home. You gonna SHUN me like a little high school girl, all stuck up. I need your Noledge. I am just one of those Omaha corn dogs hicks.

Oh, and I would also add regarding ball security, Stremlow had an ATO ratio of almost 2-1. Speiser, who everyone on here seems to be pining for and believes is a superior player had an ATO ratio of .42 which is terrible.
You conveniently leave out out a big part of the equation. Supporting cast. Passing to Ava is great for your assist stats. Put stremlow on a team with poor posts and get back to me with her numbers..

She needs to take another jump to be a starter on a legit elite 8 type of team. I don't know that she has the athleticism and size to be that player. Doesn't mean she isn't valuable.

I'm sorry. What's convenient about comparing her stats to the other players on the same team? Did they not have Ava to pass the ball to?

I like how sincere and transparent Jan is, but it's concerning that she considers recruitment via Portal, which is one of the most important parts of her job, her "least favorite part" and defines it as something "disheartening." Or that she laments having to find the formula to work at Portal and is so attached to how things were in the past, instead of working to adapt to the present day and to become the best within how things work today. She kind of rejects how things are and does something she doesn't want to do because she's forced to. That's not a good way to work, while she laments that things have changed, other schools are sweeping Portal. If it weren't for Lasondra, we wouldn't have Chit Chat, Dani Carnegie, and Joselyn Faison, and Iowa would be a total failure at Portal, and we can't afford to say that only high school recruitment is good when our recruiting class only has one player and five players we recruited in High School prefer transferred to another program. Having the ability to recruit via Portal is the solution to your problems when you have a team with six players because you couldn't recruit a large class in High School to replace your four graduating players and couldn't convince four recruited players that it would be better for them to stay in your program. I like Jan, she loves the program and is very hardworking, but I hope she understands that she needs to let go of the past and adapt to how things are now and become a pro at Portal. And I'm grateful that we have Lasondra because without her, we would have enormous problems.

Shouldn't Jan get credit for hiring Barrett, and by extension bringing in CCW, Carnegie, and Faison? How about Whiting or holding onto all of the most important pieces today?

How many college coaches do you think enjoy operating in the portal as it stands today? How do you think the vast majority of fans feel about it?

You're in trouble now.

Anyone not praising JJ is doomed to be labeled as a fan of another team or a troll.

No room on this forum for objective opinions.
Now you just have to wait for the usual suspects to announce they're putting you on "ignore".🤣🤣🤣🤣

That's a ridiculous criticism.
Have that same interview with every BT coach, and I bet you end up with nearly the same answers. Jensen hired Barrett to do a job. Give that the credit it deserves.

I think the thing that makes it difficult for all coaches is that more and more players don't seem to have the patience to get developed. Look at the amount of quality freshman that entered the portal. As far as Jan not being a big fan of the portal, That's her opinion but the bottom line is she has shown she will use the portal because she can see team needs better than us fans. If she refused to use the portal it would be an obvious concern but that hasn't been the case at all so I believe there is some unnecessary hand wringing in regard to her involvement with the portal.

The world of wbb has changed pretty drastically the last couple of years, Either adapt or get out, I feel she is trying to adapt but you seem to have concerns, Fair enough.

Yes, I think she deserves the credit, but if our HC is willing to learn how to operate on the Portal on her own and challenge herself to become good at it, and one of the best at it, I think we'll have better results. Or will we forever be restricted to the contacts Losandra has in Georgia? We can broaden our scope of action, and to do that, we need to stop lamenting that things have changed and let go of how things were in the past, like a secretary accustomed to a typewriter who refuse a PC keyboard.
