I couldn't give two squints of duck pee about recruiting in the top 25. We had the best recruiter ever and one one title. I want someone that can coach their *** off and turn out consistent tough outs in the big dance

Jimmys and Joes are more important than X's and O's. You need a good floor coach. But, if you can't recruit, you get Mark Pope.
Bullcrap. He may not be a great coach but he took a team to the S16 that had less talent than Cal had any of the last 5 years when Cal was going home in round one. With UKs NIL budget we should be able to get good kids if we have a good coach
Not bullcrap. Give Pope Caleb Wilson this past season. See what happens. And you agree with me then, you need a good coach, who's also a good recruiter. Or you get Calipari, or on the inverse, Mark Pope. Everybody has NIL, kids still want to get recruited, play for a good coach. Will Stein said as much.

He has recruited in college football for years, recruited many studs to Oregon. Just reeled in the #2 QB recruit in America. He's straight telling you, everybody has money, kids still want to get recruited. Why do you think Pope can't just buy any player he wants? You suck at this, lol.

I texted JP, so did a player that he played with. We were met with a terrific response. I’ll show you what he said. JP was on the hiring search committee and they basically ignored the fact that he was strongly against the current hire.
I think Pearl would be the most logical choice because he's still fresh on the young recruit's minds. Meaning likely instant success versus BD probably having to slowly build.

That's such a lazy statement. This place was batcrap over the moon when Cal was hired. Hell, there's a good portion of us that watched a freaking stream of a GD door waiting for the man to walk out of it after it was leaked he was meeting with his Memphis players and staff. And this place was ELECTRIC those first 5-7 yrs.
You ninnies need to quit blaming the fans. There are two people responsible for the negativity that currently surrounds this program. Mitch and Pope. That's it.

Makes perfect sense. JP is one dude I’d like to think they’d pay attention to. He’s sharp, he’s true Blue, and he seems to know what’s up. That’s unfortunate.
Hell Rupp was filled and people were waiting at the door when Pope was hired.
He is not terrible. He is just not great at ot. But the roster is not done and he has a pretty solid roster

I see Corey Sears at the gym all the time, I’m gonna start giving him crap about walking out with the bus at Popes press conference. Not a good player but another one that is embarrassed.
He's like 0-40 on his top targets. Missed on Stokes, Wright, and Freeman. All option #1. And that's just this off-season.

I think he will add Momcilovic or a Euro SF or reclass..money talks in the end, and at this late stage, after missing on Stokes, we still have more sitting around than likely anyone else does. A good SF makes this a better lineup than last season without a doubt in my mind. Having an actual PG cant be understated
Exactly Will Stein landed another today he has ZERO issues.
In fairness Stein hasn't coached a game yet BUT he is reeling in some top talent. So no not ANYONE can get kids because Pope as we have seen from 2026 recruiting cycle unfortunately didn't get ANY.
Sorry this roster is NOT even close to solid in anyway shape or form.
People undervalue the job Aberdeen did and how good he was by Feb 1. They also greatly undervalue Oweh. You say we have a “good roster” now, and then say with a good SF we’ve got a better lineup. So currently it’s not a better lineup than the team that lost 14 games, yet it’s still good? That confuses me…I think you’re stuck believing the backup QB is better than the starter simply because he hasn’t given you the chance to see he’s not very good either. I can’t buy some dude dicing up freaking Wiltjer in the California Penal League is going to be any good. Same for some dude from Furman being better than Oweh. Furman, James Madison, Washington, Washington State, rando leagues in Turkey and wherever. Still no stud. Just a bunch of “meh” talent. Which with a “meh” coach gets “meh” results. It’s just hard for me to see “a good roster”. Did you think last years roster was good? Honest question, btw.
They're probably doing an analysis of which title would be more appealing to candidates, AD or BC.
I’d need to look at the schedule and see the finished roster. Current roster including this stiff he visited today…I’ll take that bet. I wouldn’t mind a fun, friendly wager. Keeps me entertained while the team is sucking. I actually won the football score prediction thing this fall. I was dialed in to every game because of it. Made watching fun.
He would make a very good assistant, but I do not see him as a good candidate for head coach. He had only four (4) seasons over .500 in sixteen (16) years with three (3) separate programs.
He is below .500 for his career. Better assistant than head coach.
