At first blush this sounds very counterintuitive, but allow me to explain.

Matt Ruhle showed signs of progress in 2025, IMHO, but still is kind of mediocre overall. Nebraska expects better, and there has to be some win-loss threshold that he meets in order to stay on as coach at a school with such quixotic expectations. I do not really claim to know what those numbers are, though but it seems like he has to go at the very least 7-5 to expect to come back in 2027.

My biggest fear is that he goes 6-6 or worse, gets fired, and then Nebraska finally pulls a rabbit out of the hat with a splash hire and suddenly they are very competitive again. Black Friday has become one of my favorite days of the year, and I would like to keep it that way.

So, does anybody else see Ruhle as being close to the hot seat and want to see them win any seven (except of course for the last one) of their 12 scheduled games? that is just my thoughts on it. Keep Ruhle employed and keep them down there where they belong, and I feel that another 7-5 season should do just that.

Yippee, another unwarranted thread about one of the worst programs in the Big Ten.
well, sorry to disappoint you, but it is late April, the spring game is over, and we have to get some discussion going to fill the void before things get busy in August. And since Nebraska is our version of Neil Rogers (i.e., the man south Florida loves to hate) I cannot think of a more appropriate subject.

I prefer that they fire him and pay the $71 million buyout

It has been 23 years since the last time they lost less than 4 games in a season. Iowa has accomplished that feat 6 times during the same time span. Me thinks your worries are unfounded.

You may be one of the worst at starting new threads. Back-to-back with Nebraska as the topic…

Get out.

Nebby 0-12, onto next terrible coach that will suck too. That's what I'm rooting for.

Looking at their schedule a 6-6 (at best) record appears realistic. I think they will end up at 5-7. While Rhule is/will be on the hot seat, I don’t see Nebraska replacing him for at least 3 years due to his contract buyout.

No one cares, it's a volleyball and bowling school.

When someone says "Nebraska Athletics", they aren't talking about the football program.

Yeah. It would be great if he got another extension for going 5-7 this fall, but I suspect he will get his walking papers on Black Saturday 2027.
