At first blush this sounds very counterintuitive, but allow me to explain.
Matt Ruhle showed signs of progress in 2025, IMHO, but still is kind of mediocre overall. Nebraska expects better, and there has to be some win-loss threshold that he meets in order to stay on as coach at a school with such quixotic expectations. I do not really claim to know what those numbers are, though but it seems like he has to go at the very least 7-5 to expect to come back in 2027.
My biggest fear is that he goes 6-6 or worse, gets fired, and then Nebraska finally pulls a rabbit out of the hat with a splash hire and suddenly they are very competitive again. Black Friday has become one of my favorite days of the year, and I would like to keep it that way.
So, does anybody else see Ruhle as being close to the hot seat and want to see them win any seven (except of course for the last one) of their 12 scheduled games? that is just my thoughts on it. Keep Ruhle employed and keep them down there where they belong, and I feel that another 7-5 season should do just that.
