@Cstroke My understanding:

Spencer Lee's right knee hit first and his back past 90° for exposure did not come directly in one continuous motion. Therefore, no 4.

Furthermore, I don't think Luke ever got behind Spencer's hips to score a takedown (i.e., demonstrate freestyle control). Therefore no 2+2.

I think Luke only received 2 for exposure (Spencer's back past 90° for exposure) a few seconds later in the sequence after the headlock throw.

SIAP (or my head is completely up my @$$)

James' corner really challenged a last second takedown up 9-0 😅

Pretty awesome weekend of wrestling!! I know @LemonPie might not agree but I think the NLWC and PSU showed out. Lilledahl has to be the man of the weekend knocking off Spencer. Blaze gets his revenge on Davino. I just wish we would’ve seen him vs Jax. Maybe we will get it at Final X. Henckel with a good tournament placing 5th and losing to established senior level guys and past multiple time AA’s. Dake continues doing Dake things. Barr getting hurt really sucked because I think he had a legit chance to make the team. Macchiavello wrestled him extremely tough though. Mirasola’s had ok tournaments. Nothing to be overly excited about but they continue to show they are right there. I hope Duke and MM compete at trials. They are the best guys at 70 and 74kg. Can’t forget Joe Sealey! Takes 3rd at 74kg beating David Carr and a bunch of other killers. After Lilledahl he might be the biggest story. He’s always been good at free but I don’t think anyone saw this run coming. What a tournament by a guy who has been lost in the shuffle a bit

U20’s were awesome like usual. Burnett comes up short but should be right there to make the team. He impressed me all weekend. A big bright spot for me was Clinton Shepherd. He took 3rd beating some great kids. Herring took 6th losing to Dekraker twice and Sledzianowski. Jayden James absolutely destroyed a tough field at 74kg. He has a great shot at winning gold at U20 worlds. 74kg is always a brutal weight internationally but he is as good as anyone in the world. Asher had a great tournament finishing 2nd. I’m not sure if I’ve ever seen him wrestle freestyle and it showed at times. He is so funky and fun to watch. I can’t wait to see him in folk. I think he’s a much better folk style wrestler with his brutal top game. I’m excited to see how he does against Henckel if he can make 174 for the entire season

Overall the tournament was awesome and a ton of fun to watch. So much high level wrestling on display. The NLWC has a chance to put 5 on the senior world team and possibly 7 if Duke and MM compete. That is crazy. 7 of 10 would be next level

There were a bunch of potential PSU commits competing at U17’s as well. Cam Howard made the U17 world team at 71kg. Jaydin O’Farrill makes the team at 80kg and Mario Hutcherson won the first match of the series at 92kg. Match 2 is coming up shortly. Hopefully all 3 kids make their way to PSU and lock down our upper weights for the foreseeable future. The dynasty is not ending any time soon!

Asher vs Ryan Burton coming up next

Burton with the first td. 2-0 Burton

Asher with a massive crotch lift for 4!! He was sooo close to giving up a Td but instead countered for 4. Challenge by Burton

Challenge won. 4-4 now. Burton got the td before Asher got his 4. Asher up on criteria

4-4 at the break

Burton gets 4 on the edge but I think it was 2 at best. Corner should challenge but I don’t think they are going to. Weird

Step out Burton. 9-4

Burton wins 9-4

Asher is way too counter dependent. He needs to work on his own offense

Smart match by Burton. He limited the exchanges and Asher couldn’t generate any offense. No urgency either. Down 9-4 and he didn’t attack in the last :30.
All of PSU/NLWC is unless they can tech nit hating just saying

On the exchange that put Burton up 8-4 Asher reached and captured Burton's ankle and hipped Burton to his side and back and stepped over Burton. I really thought that was 2 for Asher.

Agree. Asher Must Establish his Own Offense. Do that he’ll be Elite.

Any info on Kasak or Barr? Not that we normally get anything about injuries from the coaching staff.

Observations from a first-time attendee.

The value is incredible. $125 for the whole event? Fugggedaboudit. With the transfer portal, ever rising price of NCA tickets, and B1G potentially moving off campus (not to mention their ever-rising prices), USA wrestling seems to have an opportunity to take some market share. I had a great time and am planning to add this into my annual rotation, probably at the expense of B1G.

I sat by Coach Ersland and Tanner Lipsett from Purdue. They are NOT confirmed to be hosting B1G next year. Off-campus may start as soon as next season.

Ended up sitting next to Cam Amine’s dad, Sam, for a while, including during his match against Sealey. As nice of an interaction as I have had.

The venue is great, but sparse. You can go in and out of the building as much as you want, bring in whatever you want. No metal detectors, no security, etc. Food options good enough. Pizza, bbq, açaí, pretzels, blah, blah, blah.

Accessibility is great as a fan, probably less so as an athlete. Off the mats, it’s pretty much a shuffle of athletes and spectators. Other than the main mats (1-4) you can sit right next to the mat and watch. My son helped Casey coach Rocco in an early round.

I don’t have a preference of free or folk but the completion level here is more than high enough to offset the loss of competing schools at NCAA. This event is probably my favorite.

My only controversial take is I don’t think there was enough caution taken with Kasak. Seemed to me he got his bell ring four times between the quarters and semis. Given his history, I didn’t enjoy seeing him down over and over.

Has anyone heard why Seidel didn’t compete at U20’s? He was registered at 65kg. I would’ve loved to see him vs Bassett

For the people who already like Marcus, the flu tidbit is welcome additional knowledge. For non-fans, it sounds like an excuse. If I were consigliere, I would advise not mentioning it, at least until after winning the next one.
There's a reason why Cael was all in on Blaze. Meanwhile, others annointed Jax as the next God and literally said he'd never be beaten after NCAA's. He should have already lost once. Amongst the 3, including Davino, Blaze has by far the best defense. He's elite like Dake. He also is the smartest amongst the 3....
