Sammy Sanchez didn’t show up for his consi semi match against Botero. On the other side Aslikyan up 9-0 on Mills at the break. Aslikyan techs Mills 11-1
In the last seconds he tried a flying squirrel and landed awkwardly with his foot bent outward, tweaking his knee badly. Hopefully the injury isn't too bad. Sammy did look smaller than all his opponents. I think he will need to grow into a full-sized 57kg.

His perspective, also, is really nice to hear (no opponent cares if you have the flu, he has to get better at folkstyle b/c those are the rules, crediting his coaches and Davino, glory to Jesus Christ, etc)
Agree, but factual or not, the flu at NCAAs statement didn't come across real well IMO. Could be construed by some as excuse-ish. Further, his bout with Davino at NCAAs was very similar to the previous two matches. FWIW.

"I'm worried that Blaze's reference to the Savior didn't roll off the tongue quite as smoothly as his teammates. That, and his nasty tobacco chewing habit, could signal that he's a bad fit for team culture."

He did look much smaller. He’s got time to grow and hopefully he will be a career 125

Burnett has really improved in the last year. He looks good. Cortez was in grey shirt last year where he went 25-5 the announcers said. Burnett still has a year of high school

4-1 win for Cortez. Hard fought. Burnett controlled much of the hand fight but couldn’t break through. Now he has to go to the WTT

The other Cortez twin techs Anderson 10-0. Cortez brothers are going to be good for Cornell. They could use some good news

I assume that SS is a high school sophomore who has aged out of U17s or else he’d be at 55kg U17…?
Correct. He will be a junior in hs this coming season. He is a first year u20 after winning back to back U17 world titles

Here we go! Jayden James vs Haakon Peterson

James with a quick step out. 1-0

James with a down block go behind for 2. 3-0

step out James. 4-0

4-0 at the break. First time all tournament James has reached the 2nd period

TD James. 6-0.

Shot clock point James. 7-0

James with another Td off a nice double. 9-0

9-1 win for James. KD challenged at the end as James almost scored a td at the buzzer. Challenge lost so Peterson got his only point. Peterson wrestled well but had absolutely nothing for James. Never came close to scoring. James is just on another level. Super impressive considering I think he’s still just 17.

Asher vs Ryan Burton coming up next

Burton with the first td. 2-0 Burton

Asher with a massive crotch lift for 4!! He was sooo close to giving up a Td but instead countered for 4. Challenge by Burton

Challenge won. 4-4 now. Burton got the td before Asher got his 4. Asher up on criteria

4-4 at the break

Burton gets 4 on the edge but I think it was 2 at best. Corner should challenge but I don’t think they are going to. Weird

Step out Burton. 9-4

Burton wins 9-4

Asher is way too counter dependent. He needs to work on his own offense

Smart match by Burton. He limited the exchanges and Asher couldn’t generate any offense. No urgency either. Down 9-4 and he didn’t attack in the last :30.

Not a bad tournament for Asher, Burton seems like a bad matchup for him though.

I also don't think Asher has a ton of free experience.

You can see future national champs/AAs in these finals except at 61 where the top guys are wrestling SRs, 92 and 97. 97 are light for 285 and the cut to 197 is too far. What is 92's excuse.

When your offense consists of letting kids get to your legs so you can sit the corner and then horse them over… you will have problems with very good wrestlers who you can’t horse over or sit the corner
