This. If the hostess, or KJ or heck even Levin, (who I wish had stayed) made bubkas, then that's malpractice by whomever is making those decisions....

Mackenzie Hare

Expected both to be bench but let's see if questioning whether a 6 pts/gm player like Hare will be missed on this team?

Afair, 3pt shooting was a problem late in the season. According to an article by Chad L dated April 10, 2026 on HawkCentral, Jan said that was an issue to address in the portal.
Chad writes, "Iowa desperately needs 3-point shooting, too, a glaring hole that popped up in the double-overtime loss to Virginia in the NCAA Tournament. The season-ending knee injury of Taylor McCabe underscored the Hawkeyes’ need for long-range effectiveness. Solving that would help loosen up room around Heiden. Two shooting guards would be ideal."
“If we can get that by committee, that’s when you’re really good,” Jensen said.

Believe there were many posters calling for the same upgrade in 3pt shooting on IA forums as well. This would seem to be self-explanatory. Believe CCW and Strem were a known when Jan made the above statement about adding more 3pt shooting. As in more made buckets, just not attempts from there.

My question to anyone is who solves this problem with our current portal commits? Why do you believe they solve our 3pt problem?

If you look at the last 3 games of the season, the 3% was not good. Virginia would be considered a Top 50 team that we couldn't beat on our own home floor.

If you look at DC and AW 3% against quality Top 50, their 3% is lower than Kylie's. These two seem to fit the two guards from the article to solve 3pt shooting. Do they (DC 26.2% and AW 18.2% while Kylie was at 26.9%) solve the more made 3s problem Jan talked about in the article above? Maybe they do to you? I don't feel so comfortable about it. DC does go up to 30.6% against Top 25 but that's not ideal either.

That may work for you but I'd like to have some added insurance if we can get it. As far as anyone has talked about up until now, Hare is the only that fits the sharp-shooter model (like McCabe) in big games. Hare is pretty consistent at 40% during the whole season and against Top 50/25 quality opponents.

Hare played with Crooks and you better believe ISU pounded the post. Hare coming into Iowa's 4 out would give her more opportunity to let it fly at a ~40% clip to up her 6 pts/gm (depending on # of mins off the bench).

Hare only committed 18 TOVs all season in 32 games. She took care of the ball better than McCabe did. Jan may find someone else to cover more made 3 pt shooting or she may not. What if Jan doesn't get another sharp-shooter to commit? I'm just saying we may wish we had Hare on the bench to provide that spark for us. Anyways, that's why I said it wasn't good news. I don't see that more made 3pt shooting fulfilled yet. Maybe you do? If you do, think we'll be rolling the dice with the current pickups in Top 50/25 games hoping their 3% does better than last year.

Hope is the last strategy you use when all others are exhausted. Outside of being a frosh (speed/physicality are a ***** to absorb your 1st yr out of HS), the past performance is usually the best indicator of future performance is widely excepted behavioral traits when hiring. That's the world we live in today. These women are now hired on one contracts. If you have a biz and hire, you'll understand this. Humans are usually consistent in their actions when they get in their comfort zone.

Here are the numbers I'm talking about in the grid below. I'd feel better if we brought in at least one more player that looks more like Strem where her 3% gets better against Top 25 teams. Again, this is why I wanted Hare so we do have this in our toolkit locked up now just in case DC and AW follow last seasons 3%s this coming year. There's no guarantee JJ can get a sharp-shooter remaining in the portal to visit and then subsequently commit.

Just believe you have to get these types of players sooner rather than later for fear the portal runs dry on you. Feel it's a little shortsighted to select 6pts/gm in a Crooks laden offense over ~40% on 3s. My prior post shows how the available portal players have dwindled down in number already. We'll see if Jan can pickup up another guard that can help with sharp-shooting like McCabe.

The issue was more than just 3pt shooting. We had multiple guards who had little else to offer in terms of scoring if they weren't hitting the 3. The two guards we've brought in so far offer much better versatility. They're not elite 3 point shooters, but they can score even when the 3s aren't falling. When March comes, you need versatility more than specialization.

So are you disputing me or are you disputing Jan in giving Heiden more room?

Many of us can disparage Jayda as much as you want but after 56 years of coaching high school and college basketball believed having a “Jayda” or two type player was critical to the success of our programs. Maybe not in wins, but in our team culture and chemistry allowing those teams to be together reaching their potential. Fire away. It will never change my opinion. Good for you Jayda 👊🏻

Gyamfi got $$$$$ ?

For what?

She actually more visibly worked at NIL than most. What you do on the court is only part of what makes a person valuable to a company looking to sign marketing deals.

I am sure many of her deals she got herself (no direct knowledge - just a hunch from watching her podcast)

She has said in the past that she will never make as much in the future as she is now (more or less not a direct quote)

Not make as much in the future????
That's a masterful troll job, champ.

Why are we still talking about Kenzie Hare?

I already posted that and said it was not good news below.
Not the best news. Had her pegged as the #1 3pt shooter (against Top 50 and Top 25 quality teams) of anyone we went after so far. She'll likely be starter here and why IA was probably a tougher sell.
As far I recall, McCowan is the only left in the pipeline. Sure they're looking at others but haven't heard any other name(s) surface recently.

I was mainly responding to this post but too lazy to find it.
Agree. ^^ No offense to Hare, but I will not lose sleep to "losing" a 6 pt per game shooter.

I actually don't agree with any of this. Running a high low post with Hannah was the biggest reason Heiden didn't have more room. McCabe was a one dimensional 3 point shooter and Stremlow who replaced her shot a higher percentage. Kylie was obviously offensively challenged.

Do you come by being a jerk naturally or do you have to work at it? Your puking up the same old same old day after day is tiring. Leave.

What did I say that you disagree with?
In this NIL/paying the roster environment, you can't afford dead weight.
JadaG was dead weight.
Even if she only got $25K.

I would rather have Journey play the high post. For high low with Ava.

I'm really not trying to "disparage" anyone, but please give examples of exactly what Jada did that helped Iowa reach their potential. I'm
not trying to change your opinion, and I doubt you'll change mine, I'm just curious why people think that. What did she do that helped Iowa reach two national title games? She seems like a nice young woman, but is it really your position that the last two years when Jan DESPERATELY needed another actual player who could make plays at that three spot, that we wouldn't have benefitted much more from a real talent adding depth at that wing spots then The maybe 10 minutes of mop up duty Jada was able to contribute in two seasons? Do these young women (18-23 yrs old) really need a "bestie" or rah rah girl to reach their potential? Especially now when their playing for real money? Really?

I believe I understand what you are saying. That roster spots should not be given to players who cannot physically help a team on the court. I can respect your take. My experience with my teams is the most significant factor in us playing more to our potential was cohesiveness. I explained my definition of cohesiveness in a previous post. Part of that definition was team culture and chemistry. Having players understanding and accepting their roles (While still trying improve their role) was always important in any success we had. I found when we had a 14 player roster of players who were Unhappy with their PT it was difficult to keep the chemistry we needed. Players like Jayda were always major contributors to our team success in their role of bringing positivity and energy to the team. They helped make the season more enjoyable for all of us. You may feel that‘s overrated. I’m ok with that, I‘m just saying that was the philosophy I had for putting together my teams. I think Coach Bluder had that philosophy also as she seldom filled a complete roster.

I’ve told you guys he’s not a Iowa fan, he’s a troll, big time if he was an Iowa fan, he would have some positive things to say about the team, but all he does is criticize!! I think he’s a punk!!

Here we go...the "He's not an Iowa fan" because a person can objectively look at roster construction, coaching, and other factors and see the obvious.

Right now, you can EASILY put USC, UCLA, Maryland, Michigan, and Minnesota ahead of Iowa next year.

Sweet 32 or bust!

This tweet reaks of disappointment and desperation. It almost sounds like a real estate advert for a condo that's "move in ready! Get your offer in now!"..
The thing is this girl ....... can play and score. Yes all the grab everthing you can but ......
she fits and has 2 yrs of upside. she has proven she belongs.

Find the money and comprise. Reagan has 2 yrs of experience 1,500 points. thats fact.

GET HER. FIND THE MONEY. guessing 150,000 - 200,000 gets it done. was probaby way higher a few weeks ago

No, objectively, you cannot say that about 4 of those teams. With JuJu returning I think that's safe to say about USC, BUT, objectively, many thought the same thing about the USC team the last time JuJu played Iowa when USC, objectively, LOST. Objectively, you can continue to claim objectivity without demonstrating nor presenting your claims with even an whisper of actual objectivity.
