A grown man hitting a 15 y/o girl is never a good message.
If you are hitting kids at 15 you let too much stuff go for the first 8-10 years.
I used to get picked up and lifted to the ceiling or thrown down the hall or onto a bed or whatever. I thought it was harsh, but I deserved some percentage of it. Wife and I disagreed on corporal punishment, and my son never got anything beyond spanking around age 5. He's not Charmin soft but he gets away with a ton more lip than he ever would've iif I could've backhanded him once or twice. I acknowledge that this day and age you are putting your career on the line with certain styles of parenting. I don't think it's healthy for any kid to outright fear their folks, but the thought that a physical consequence is possible for certain behaviors is an effective deterrent. I teach elementary school, and obviously my role is much different as a teacher. I'm telling you that some of these parents are super soft, and the friendship I see in parenting as opposed to mentorship makes me feel fortunate that I can retire at any time.

Wrong. Have you raised a 15 year old girl? I have. I never had to hit spank or slap her but my son had some friends that damned sure could have used some physical correction. Evil nasty little bitches that had never been corrected. He eventually figured out what bad news they were. The old chivalrous “never smack a girl” thing went out the window with MTV and social media. Damn there’s some nasty kids out there. Again, I’m not advocating for corporal punishment but IMO there are some kids that don’t respond to anything else. The alternative is a o do nothing and watch them spiral out of control.

We started disciplining our children early and they understood consequences from a young age. Didn’t have many problems with them as they got older. Too many parents today trying to be their kids friend.I’m conflicted on the whole spanking young kids issue but I have zero problems with a mouthy teenager getting slapped. Again, it didn’t happen at my house but dang.
Yep . When you see kids say 7or eight in public acting up it’s pretty obvious their parents never took your path.
Good luck with that. You can’t trace their location if you take their phone away. Discipline is NOT easy today. Probably never has been but it seems way more complicated for today’s parents than it was when I was a kid. For one thing, I believe popular culture has made people WAY more disrespectful to other humans. The level of awful behavior I witness is off the charts from kids and young adults is off the charts. All you have to do is read this board d to see that.

It goes back to my earlier post. People talk a big game on social media or the bar. No man on here is hitting a freshman female in high school. Just talk they think makes them macho.

The problem is that 14 is when the rebellion hits. My middle kid was great….until 14 and girls then he lost his frickin mind for about 5 years. One bad girlfriend and her even worse friends destroyed his attitude.
Not sure how you prevent testosterone and a crazy little broad from almost ruining your kid’s life. She and her best friend needed to be slapped by their parents.Assault? Assault would be punching her maybe. There’s been no indication that is the case. Lots of “I would never” from guys who likely have never been in the situation this guy was. IF I had it to do over I’m not sure I would have kids. They can put you through hell.
