I'm torn on this.

on one hand, scumbag chiefs deserve all the rotten tomatoes society can throw

on the other, I think his kid has a chance to be a good player for us

Smacked his kid for acting out? Give him a parent of the year award if that’s all this was. I’m not advocating for going full Nickisix on kids but damn a little fear of the what the old man will do would help a TON of today’s kids.

A grown man hitting a 15 y/o girl is never a good message.
I used to get picked up and lifted to the ceiling or thrown down the hall or onto a bed or whatever. I thought it was harsh, but I deserved some percentage of it. Wife and I disagreed on corporal punishment, and my son never got anything beyond spanking around age 5. He's not Charmin soft but he gets away with a ton more lip than he ever would've iif I could've backhanded him once or twice. I acknowledge that this day and age you are putting your career on the line with certain styles of parenting. I don't think it's healthy for any kid to outright fear their folks, but the thought that a physical consequence is possible for certain behaviors is an effective deterrent. I teach elementary school, and obviously my role is much different as a teacher. I'm telling you that some of these parents are super soft, and the friendship I see in parenting as opposed to mentorship makes me feel fortunate that I can retire at any time.

Wrong. Have you raised a 15 year old girl? I have. I never had to hit spank or slap her but my son had some friends that damned sure could have used some physical correction. Evil nasty little bitches that had never been corrected. He eventually figured out what bad news they were. The old chivalrous “never smack a girl” thing went out the window with MTV and social media. Damn there’s some nasty kids out there. Again, I’m not advocating for corporal punishment but IMO there are some kids that don’t respond to anything else. The alternative is a o do nothing and watch them spiral out of control.

Really Dingle? You are entering the Nikki Sixx realm of hitting women.

Did you really knock your 15 yo daughter around???

Nah. His kid. His responsibility and no doubt she was acting out. I wouldn’t do it personally but I understand why it might happen.

I’m really distressed about the downward spiral of permissiveness I see today. I was one of the kids that needed a swift kick in the *** to figure things out and I got a couple. I didn’t get enough whacks as an early teen. My teachers in middle school should have beat my ***. One regret I have is that I never apologized to a couple of them before they died. 😕

I don’t ever feel like hitting my kids, but there sure are a lot of teenagers in the general population that I’d like to smack around. And if I thought I could get away with it…

💯 We started disciplining our children early and they understood consequences from a young age. Didn’t have many problems with them as they got older. Too many parents today trying to be their kids friend.

I’m conflicted on the whole spanking young kids issue but I have zero problems with a mouthy teenager getting slapped. Again, it didn’t happen at my house but dang.

Kids are more difficult, but disciplining is easier.

Take their damn phone away. It’s that freaking simple. You don’t need to hit a teen.

They’ll obey literally any rule you make up just to get their phone back.

As someone who raised a rebellious girl, I can't imagine hitting a girl that age, even as a parent. Boys? Oh, for sure. Lots of parents talk a big game on social media or at the bar with friends but won't do sh*t for disciplining their kids. Embarrassing.

Correct them when they're very little and you won't have nearly the amount of problems... too many folks think it's "cute" when they're acting out at 2 or 3 y/o,,, nope... not in my house... the kids all knew the boundaries and stayed within them for the most part

Yep . When you see kids say 7or eight in public acting up it’s pretty obvious their parents never took your path.

Good luck with that. You can’t trace their location if you take their phone away. Discipline is NOT easy today. Probably never has been but it seems way more complicated for today’s parents than it was when I was a kid. For one thing, I believe popular culture has made people WAY more disrespectful to other humans. The level of awful behavior I witness is off the charts from kids and young adults is off the charts. All you have to do is read this board d to see that.

There are some great discussions on the topic of societal incivility. The net takeaway is that most of today’s younger generations have been shielded from natural consequences of their actions.

1. Kids are not "different" today, that is such a tired argument. Parents are different. Kids are the same.

2. Your kids should be scared of you. That doesn't mean you have to beat them but they need to be scared of you.

3. All of us "had it worse" with our parents and all our kids will tell the same exact story to their kids.

4. Daughters are more annoying to raise and mothers and daughters don't get along after the age of 12...then they hate each other until about 18.

5. And this one will hurt. Your own kids...the ones that you say "I am so glad you don't act like your friend Stacy or Tom"...well that is exactly who they act like. They just hide it from you.

6. And this one will REALLY hurt. Your kids do almost all the things that you think they don't do. Now, to what level, that is different for everyone.

Just like we all did.

I inow nothing about the story and i've read at least 10 articles about it. All of them had nothing in terms of details. I've seen waaaay to many kids lie their butts off about things they claim their parents did to them to take this with anything more than a grain of salt, until some more deets come out.

Nothing keeping everyone else from assuming the worst though, and it will be interesting to what develops over the next several days.

There is a reason why most CPS cases never go anywhere...

The hitting part is bad, no doubt.

But the posters that that "THEIR" kid doesn't lie or do bad things, that is always amusing.

Well if he really hit her he can F off and die. But I'm going to need to know more about this before I take it very serious because I've seen this movie a few times and it frequently ends with the person claiming this shown to be... lets just say, not being truthful.

Grown men physically assaulting 15 year old girls is more popular than I thought

Not my thing, but we do have an outsized representation of chiefs & B1G fans on this board, so I suppose I shouldn’t be surprised
It goes back to my earlier post. People talk a big game on social media or the bar. No man on here is hitting a freshman female in high school. Just talk they think makes them macho.

The old "This is what I would do" bit...

And it is always some insane answer.

If you are hitting kids at 15 you let too much stuff go for the first 8-10 years.
Agreed.

My uncle once told me feed them, teach them, watch them.

0-7 feed them
7-14 teach them
14-21 watch them
21+ ship has left the dock

Moral of the story raise your kids before they get to 14 not after.

The problem is that 14 is when the rebellion hits. My middle kid was great….until 14 and girls then he lost his frickin mind for about 5 years. One bad girlfriend and her even worse friends destroyed his attitude. 😕Not sure how you prevent testosterone and a crazy little broad from almost ruining your kid’s life. She and her best friend needed to be slapped by their parents.

Assault? Assault would be punching her maybe. There’s been no indication that is the case. Lots of “I would never” from guys who likely have never been in the situation this guy was. IF I had it to do over I’m not sure I would have kids. They can put you through hell.
