Many years ago on the old board during the Cal years, there was a guy (forget who, what season, etc) who made a post saying "every time Brad Calipari takes the floor, it's an embarrassment to the program".

At the time, the post was heavily mocked. But fast forward to now, I understand what that guy was trying to say. Maybe it was even one of you. But yeah. This program is in dark times.

He better be worth it FR. It’s just another in a long line of things that shows how desperate he’s getting.
Yeah, I’m guessing he was sure he was getting Freeman. Maybe not getting him ends up to be a blessing. Hopefully Hawthorne becomes a stud, Stokes comes, and Pope gets and unexpected surprise dude. Probably won’t happen, but I’m going to not be miserable about it, because that just doesn’t do any good.

Saul Smith would be the 5th best player on this roster.
Saul Smith would be behind all our roster - He would never have been starting PG at Huntington Prep nor 12th ranked player in W VA. Wichita St offered him a scholarship so he’s no slouch.
?.? The new rules say 15 scholarships - might as well use them.
I would like to see Noah Redshirt this year.
Bring in the 7-5 Ky kid from USC.
Let’s have some fun next year & hope for the best.

It’s every thread, there’s a select few that think they just have to defend popes honor
That’s one of the wild things about Kentucky basketball. A coach can lose games, struggle recruiting and some will still like them no matter what. I can remember some fans throwing fits when BCG was fired.

Saul Smith wasn’t that bad, he just wasn’t starter material or enough to push away the AA that wanted to sign except they knew Tubby wouldn’t send him to the bench. He’s better than a lot of the roster as it stands.

Who cares if we suck. U popettes are silly.
I'm no kind of "ette" . I'm just a realist. We need 15 players. This guy is a better 15 than a walkon. Pope isn't going anywhere until after next season. Crybabies and trolls won't change that. I'm hoping for the best. If next year sucks we'll be coach shopping. Until then this place is side splitting funny. Know nothings and prognosticators are a hoot!

He’s slowly moving the goal post
Lmao so we can't be upset about the 10-13 players on the roster? What kind of mind control is Pope putting on some of you. He is sucking at every aspect of his job and some of you still on your knees in these threads for him. WAKE UP

Wasn’t on the board then but that’s kind of crazy to defend BCG lol

Well it insures we keep his brother which I think is a good thing.
This is what it takes to keep a dude that was 40# too light to play last yr. You gotta take his no talent brother. I swear to god man. Just read that slowly. That’s. What. It. Took. To. Keep. Freaking. Braden. Freaking. Hawthorne.

I was going to say welcome to the younger Hawthorne, but judging by this thread, I should slit my wrists and jump off my roof headfirst instead.

Jeez.
Why in the world would you want to welcome a player that isn’t worthy of playing at UK to the program? Like honestly. What’s the point? To prove you’re somehow better than those that gripe and complain? Let me clue you in on something, YOU should be groping and complaining too. It’s that bad.

Do not hate this. Better than filling out the back end of the roster with a Walker Horn/Grant Darbyshire/Tod Lanter/Steve Masiello type. Kid looks quick and will give the guards a good lefty look to defend in practice. Would guess a second Hawthorne to redshirt. Never know, might even grow a little like Braydon did.

Welcome, kid!

Now, Pope needs to go make a splash!

BTW, Cal (and most coaches) would have done the same to get or retain a player they wanted.
Odds are that player would’ve been better than a 160# redshirt.
