It’s wild seeing players now turning down First Round guarantees (Haugh, Mullin, Yaxel last year, etc.). NIL has changed everything.
Well I mean look at Yaxel -- made a few mil, made a name for himself nationally, and boosted his draft stock. It doesn't work out like that for everyone, and for some people, it makes sense to leave (see: Sheppard, Reed), but in general it's not the worst thing to be a college kid with a few $M to burn.

The thing that sucks for us is even if Pope pulls a rabbit out of his hat with some recruits, try going through about 10 of these stout teams and getting to a Final Four. Its not going to happen no matter who he pulls together.

The good news for most here is just deal with this year a new coach will be hired in 11 months. Just ride it out.

I was offered a promotion today that requires me to work about 90 hours a week for probably a year. I think I'll take it and skip this next season. I've never done that before but I think that's best for me

I know it's a new concept, but some people enjoy playing for their coach and calculate that further development (along with a hefty payday) will boost their lifetime earnings potential. I know, I know, it's unheard of for players to like their coach, I know.
Kinda agree but this guy will be 23 in a couple of months.

Seems like Haugh and Condon have been there 4 or 5 years. Haugh is in mock drafts. I'm guessing he's getting a big bag of cash.

Here's hoping Kerr retires and Golden leaves UF up a creek without a paddle to take the Golden (Ha!) State job. Then maybe their whole team will bail for the portal.

Wtf. Turning down lotto pick!?

Hard to blame UF either... if you are Golden, would you rather try to pony up big NIL $$$ to keep Haugh who you've coached and know what you're getting or go after some other guy who may be as talented but may or may not mesh well with your coaching/culture?

they are toxic in football culture but pretty chill with basketball expectations.
They don't have a strong basketball fan identity, really. I'm worn down from of seeing certain posters dig at UK fans for being "toxic," every time I turn around. Even after the recent success, I can get decent season tickets and parking as a UF alum for a fraction of what it would cost at UK. The O dome is a great environment to watch games. I live about 2.5 hours away, and try to make it up there when I can.

Pope can’t retain role players and can’t replace them either.

A guy playing coach down at the Y wouldn’t do any worse.

Why not? Florida has a huge payroll, which is also why Chinyelu is coming back and Momcilovic is going to Florida. Haugh gets paid similar money, but plays 40 or fewer games. Florida, Duke, Illinois, Ohio State, Michigan, etc will all benefit from pay-for-play. Haugh is older than Wemby as is Chinyelu. They might get a fifth year in 2028. Imagine if the entire 2012 team came back another year. Florida might go undefeated next year.

same clowns were taking victory laps yesterday

Life comes at you fast
Not sure anyone here would be taking any victory laps as badly as things are going on. But your favorite team is pretty good, so I suppose it's worth a trip to another team's message board to troll. Fortunately for trolls like you, our mods allow you guys to hang around for a while, unlike gatorbait or whatever it's called now.
