Momcilovic is by far the best fit for Pope’s system as a stretch 3 and always has been.
He’s a bigger body version of a combo Brea/Carr hybrid shooter with more flexibility to fake and pop from mid range or whip a pass over the lane or to an open shooter on the opposite wing.
Pope needs to spend up to ALL of how much of whatever UK has left in regular NIL to plug him in with Williams and Moreno (who knows about Hawthorne) and then Pope will have the best complement of roster construction to get Stokes (if it’s still a possibility AND if Stokes is serious about it being his deciding factor).
Again— it’s worth spending the rest of the regular NIL money just on getting Momcilovic, ti have the best chance at getting Stokes.
Because if Stokes is getting paid by a special booster fund and he really is evaluating the roster Pope can fit together before deciding to come, then this one move (getting MOMCILOVIC) should be the most attractive for Stokes— and Pope pitching Stokes to be the guy (the high post big) to run the Zoom action through him az the high post big — and Moreno as the low post escape valve.
Hear me out why this makes a great final pitch to get Stokes. too!
Stokes has a great wing span, would make a great pick and pop threat and he is also an exceptional high post passer, with a tremendous first step to be a powerful finisher at the basket but can just as easily step out to make the three or dump off to Moreno or a driving guard if the defense collapses on him down low.
Seriously, if Pope can’t “analyze” this then he needs to drop the Zoom as his offense. Because we really don’t need Freeman when Stokes is just as powerful a finisher at the rim BUT unlike Freeman, can run the offense through him at the high post.
IMO, this is Pope’s best Hope for constructing an offensive combo that could absolutely be a Final Four caliber lineup using the system he actually is good at coaching.
Everyone on that roster can pass, create spacing and lots of downhill drivers with legit 3 point lockout/step back options (and one an elite outside shooter with Momcilovic) in that lineup.
