Didn't freeman kind of complained about not seeing his name when kids used bed sheets with players name on it to come to kentucky? Seems like he is more about getting paid. 3 million what I would offer and tell him take it or go some where else.
Go the Euro route or simply take your medicine and get a lesser player. We had Rancik and let him go thinking Freeman was ours. Pope gets played so much. It's pitiful. He's like a substitute teacher. Getting no respect.
Prediction - this team is going to look a lot like last year, a bunch of mercenaries playing for a guy they know has one year left, only coming for the money.
It's literally a lose lose proposition with Pope in the seat in what is going to be his last year. Every recruit/agent knows it is so they're not coming for him, knows how desperate he is. Every doofus here getting their panties in a knot over every name, without thinking about what's getting them here, is short sited.
If I see a recruit saying how much they want to play for UK as part of their recruitment, I'm in. If I see players visiting and jockeying all over the place for more money, I know why they're coming.
This year is going to be a SShow. Would rather have lesser player motivated to be a UK than the high priced mercenaries who won't give a S and happy to be cashing in.
I agreed with passing on Rancik if he wanted to start. Even if we miss on Freeman, I still believe that to be the right decision. Can’t lock in a borderline top 100 portal guy as a starter mid April with everything on the line for Pope this year. Continue to big game hunt where possible with Euros as your fallback.
Injuries have derailed both of Popes team so he hasn’t gotten a fair shake.
Freeman has been injured for two years.
Plus now we are about to whiff. He went from 100% gonna sign yesterday to now his agent has a better offer from St. John’s and word is starting to leak out about momentum and they lead now. Typical whiff recruitment taking shape. Watch he will commit there today after a single day of them “leading.” SMFH
We better hope so. I think there will be some surprises that could definitely work out but with Pope I’d rather have someone already signed than a what if.
With either roster, no injuries, was it good enough to win the SEC or make a final four? We weren’t beating Florida, Alabama, Auburn 2025, for a conference championship. We wouldnt have been one of the best 7-8 teams this year even with Lowe and JQ. Didn’t have the shooting and the team didn’t play well together. It looks like a mid roster again this year.
At some point he has to learn to take guys who wanna come a few times.
We've slipped so far as a program. It's hard to fathom being held up and losing recruits over Freeman. With his injury history. I can understand waiting around on Stokes... But Freeman? He's a good player.
If Blackwell only gets 1.9 you get on the phone now and offer 3 and get him to sign. That is one BS article.

Because half of them use some hangar on to negotiate for them. Prolly don’t even have a degree or anything. Thats why contracts should be worded so that the school has outs because some of these dudes won’t understand the language.
If its strictly a money issue, which is sounds like it is, you HAVE to pay Freeman. You can't go into your do or die season with project Euros or low ranked transfers. We, especially Pope, need Freeman to have any kind of shot at a really good year next year.
Might not be too late to go back to them with a much better offer and see if we can get them. Just unreal.

The agent has no power. The player can sign his name anytime he wants, and the agent gets zero if he is fired. The player might say that to save face, but its crap
These agents are basically drug dealers rushing into a vacuum. That's what happens when you have no collective bargaining and no rules.
Every recruit is using us like this though. At some point we have to say no more. Thais is why Pope must be let go, there is no use giving him another year imho. It’s wasting time and money that won’t change a thing.
Just think what a competent coach could do with our war chest.
Pope’s second year was so bad it diminished his first. That first team did throw up some clunkers even when fully healthy but they were fun to watch and could beat anyone.
The second year was just such a bad mix of players, I don’t think lack of injuries would have made much of a difference. Injuries for that first team played a much larger role imo.
Agreed but losing your PG for the year and your PG2 dipped out was a sh/t start for the season and taking a risk on JQ which back fired was the doom imo
I don't think it's that kinda whiff. I think the whiff is believing he wanted to sign here. He clearly had no intention of playing for UK. You don't let him walk away without signing if you have a "yes." If you have a maybe, you move on, and you sign the guy that wants to be here.
If you can't read people well, you are NOT going to win titles. Clearly Pope can't. In that case you sign the ones that want to be here and let the game players go.
It’s almost as if Pope should have landed a stud 5 star PF freshman, just in case the portal didn’t have any prime time players that weren’t asking for a ridiculous amount.
I’ve been saying that all along. Wilkins is our biggest get. If the others were stars, their teams wouldn’t have been so terrible.

Yeah. Didn't seem like a guy that would be playing for the name on the front of the jersey. Sounded more like he's needy. Needing of attention and easily hurt. Doesn't sound like a teammate you can count on when the chips are down.
He doesn't get it from fans. Why would we expect him to get it from recruits? It's pretty ridiculous to expect someone to respect a person thats trashed by his own fanbase. It's a great pitch-
"Our coach sucks, but you should come play here because it's Kentucky and we were great once..."
