I’d choose the school I liked best and commit. Or I’d expect the school to find someone else if I took too long. Honestly.
It isn’t that simple for these majority of kids. Would you turn down an additional $500K to $1M? I can understand completely why a kid wouldn’t want to.

Again I’ll say should have taken Rancik

1.) Wanted to be here and was ready to commit
2.) Better skillset match and fit for other existing pieces
3.) No history of injuries the same way Freeman has

I hope this doesn’t come back to haunt the staff, because power forwards with the versatility we need are not easy to find.

A good agent won't allow their client to sign a contract where, if they get hurt, they don't get paid. I don't like it, but the agent is looking out for the guy if this is true. Also, I don't want to be known as the school that does that. Every agent will stay away.
He didn't say he wouldn't get paid, he just wouldn't receive the whole contract amount.

Matt just reported things have broken down with Freeman and his agency. Doesn’t know where things are going from here. Thoughts about accuracy of that?
CMP just isn’t made for this cutthroat business. But if he loses out on Freeman, it’s all but guaranteed next year will probably suck anyway so he won’t have to deal with it much longer.

The problem isn’t other schools. Our NIL deal for Freeman has a minimum games played clause to collect the total contract. Freeman’s agent didn’t like that and that’s what has caused the delay. It’s not competition from another school, just his agent not wanting that clause in the contract and our staff not budging. From my understanding it’s been taken care of now, so as far as I’m concerned pencil Freeman in as our starting 4.

He will have to find a diamond in the rough at the four that exceeds expectations. Last year our weakest position was the 4 and it looks like it will be again

Almost like it would have been nice if we had a GM to foresee this happening.

How then do you avoid Quaintance situations? I can’t blame the schools for protecting themselves against players who can’t or won’t play.

Then, if money was my primary concern, I would go ahead and choose the school offering me the extra million. Seriously. If money is the objective the choice is even easier — take the money. It doesn’t take days or weeks. That **** is just for attention.

I don't know that you can right now. I don't blame schools either, but on the other hand, you want your guy to get his money if he blows out a knee playing for you.

I think you pay them what it takes to get them here for the next year or two, then hope change comes (I think it will) soon. I don't want UK to be taken advantage of. I don't like the way things are, but we need the best players we can get.

I’m trying to think of which Conway Twitty song this is from…🤔
The new pastor (who looked like Conway Twitty) in town was out visiting the people in the neighborhood. The first door he knocked on a little old lady opened the door and saw him on the porch. She screamed, "Conway Twitty!" No mam!" he replied, "I am the new pastor in town." The second door, the same thing happened again. The third door was a beautiful younger lady who screamed, "Conway Twitty!" The pastor smiled and said, "Hello, Darlin."

I think it would be entirely reasonable to put in a clause that if you are deemed medically healthy and refuse to play, you don’t get paid. I also think any agent or player refusing to sign such an agreement plans to **** you over and isn’t worth recruiting.

Getting injured on the job is something else entirely.

The sad thing is, even with Rancik/Freeman, Kentucky probably still isn’t in the top 3 in the SEC and maybe even if we picked up Stokes I wouldn’t even think we’re the preseason favorites.

CMP is working on such a slim margin of error that losing both Rancik and Freeman without pulling off a miracle like Momcilovic will probably lead us to struggling to stay in the top half of the SEC.

I hate to say it definitively, since anything can change the outcome, even miracles, but CMP might be a dead man walking if he whiffs on both Rancik and Freeman.

You gotta pull off Freeman, coach. Your future likely depends on it.

That's twice bc the staff could have landed Jeremiah Wilkerson. He's got some offense. Hopefully, the staff knows ultimate fit.

Both Rancik and Wilkerson are usually guys you want on a roster, so hopefully that means we're gonna be better than I expect. Pope turning guys away!!!
I wasn’t pleased to hear that. Should have taken Rancik. Put the onus on Freeman.

100% agree if you're healthy and refuse to play.

Say you miss your total games played number due to legitimate injury and don't get paid half your money. That's a non starter if I'm an agent.

If we got all them we still would not be the best SEC team . Florida brought back all their studs

I wonder if you could offer a balloon incentive over two years for players with at least two years of eligibility. It’s definitely a dilemma that’s gonna require a legal solution. You can’t have players taking millions to shut it down. But you’re right about players needing some protection for legit injuries.

Freeman has Pope by the balls now. Obviously all recruits and agents are leveraging the amount they can get, the market is shrinking with starting level players. Goode being off the market really hurts now. If they could have gotten Rancik to commit I would have called Freeman and said you have until the end of the day to accept or we will continue to recruit you after this commitment at a far less amount.
I hate missing on Goode and Rancik. Damn.

I don't know, sounds like there is some validity to what he says. Matt Jones thought he was going to sign today. Why didn't he. What would be the hold up, or just maybe its some stipulation in the contract? If Freeman immediately turns around and commits to another team, then you can say UK was outbid.

It’s why I think destiny is pulling against him. Everything, even if he managed to pull the portal jackpot while getting Stokes, is working against his favor going into next year. Our in-state rival is spending absurd money on a team while there are multiple SEC foes who will likely have much better teams than us.

To be brutally frank, CMP might just be doomed regardless of what he does.

lol, not ballsy. I just share what I hear, and when I hear something concrete from people I trust I’m not afraid to share it. Only the trolls try to say I claim to be an “insider” when I definitely don’t. I don’t have a twitter or instagram and I don’t go on there to check anything so my only information is from this message board and the people I talk to in my network. Trolls will be trolls though, I’m just a fan who loves the sport.
So what’s up now? Jones say he has another higher offer from one of St John’s or Tennessee. He doesn’t know where it goes now?

I would summarize it as: Freeman and or his agent is wanting more money. So they are using Tennessee and St Johns to try to squeeze Pope

Tennessee has Haralson at the 4 and they’re looking to pay either Ament or Juke to finalize their lineup. So they don't seem likely to outbid Kentucky

St Johns made an offer greater than ours according to some internet rumors

Is Kentucky going to match St Johns? We shall see soon

Tennessee already has a 4. St Johns made an offer greater than ours according.

Will Pope be willing to match St Johns?
What choice does he have? CMP is desperate, he either matches the offer or fall on his sword and lose his dream job the end of next season.

It was UK, UConn and Bama and we were told his agents preferred UConn or Bama. UConn bows out, we were told it was down to UK and Bama. Bama bows out. Now his agents are pushing him towards St. John’s or Tennessee? What will it take for Mark Pope to get a clue?

Sounds like Pope should have taken Rancik when he (supposedly) had the chance to do so. He seems to have a habit of waiting indefinitely on the guy he wants despite repeatedly being left at the alter.
Yes, just like getting Diallo when he wanted Wright. Some of the things you all make up are hilarious

Totally agree. I will go as far as to say Pope needs to offer Rancik more money to come to UK and tell Freeman goodbye. Grow some balls Mark.
