Here’s the deal. UConn was good before NIL. St John’s sucked, even with Pitino. They’d suck again without Repoli.

Ok internet tough guy. Here is the deal if you have a brain: Every program Rick Pitino has taken over at the college level has won. Period. Go look it up. No matter the era, conference, high major or mid major.

But that’s not the point either.

The point is everyone is playing in this crappy NIL era. And a contingent of our board talks about actual basketball — which is what we are here to do - for all but one. Because of some unknown reason.

And no, they didn’t suck with Pitino. Not even year 1. Which was the NIL
Portal era last I checked. But then again I actually follow college basketball.

UConn is in a whole different stratosphere because they are a state school in a league with all private schools. They also have a bunch of Repoli’s. Most recently, Robert Skinner.

NIL started July 2021 -- UConn missed the NCAAT 4 of 5 years from 16/17 to 20/21

Danny's first year they missed the NCAAT... Pitinos first year StJ missed the NCAAT

In 20/21 and 21/22 (first season of NIL) UConn lost in the first round.

The 22/23 season UConn began their run. After NIL.

So who are the UConn boosters that are as evil as Repole?

The difference is he probably doesn't have a college degree that is really marketable or high earnings potential. It was a one off for him.He wasn't getting drafted by an NBA team. He got 85k from the Nets as a free agent after getting cut.

Fair point, except I recall seeing him graduating from Seton Hall in a photo with other player/grads. I think his wife graduated from St. Peter's as well. And if players like Davis don't get degrees---- for "free"--- shame on them and the univeristy for not staying on track for five years.

I do think about what many of these one-and-dones will be doing in 8-10 years. Maybe working as a substitute teacher, but most districts require a degree for that. Maybe coaching a JV high school team or working in an after-school program at the local Y.

Old Miss is like an MLB player being traded to Seattle. He will make his money but usually you don't hear too much from them even though they are in the SEC.

This was $'s and the strong possibility also exists that playing for Sha is tough on Clark and today's spoiled athletes. Sha does need to figure out how to retain our good players. Money is probably 70% and having success and creating an environment where players want to stay is 30%. We seem to be short on both.
