After two weeks of relative normalcy, Mets have reverted to last year's bullpen churn mode. Gerber to IL due to a finger blister. Warren up.
I guess they did Gerber a favor by disabling him so he still collects a MLB salary for at least 15 days.

No bueno for Jonah Tong tonight. 86 pitches, 4.2 innings, 5 hits, 6 earned runs, 2 HR, 3 BB, 10 K. The 10 K's are good at least.

If it's any consolation, young man, the Cy Young voters have demonstrated a high degree of tolerance in this regard.

He is one of the best young pitchers in the game though.
In the off season the emphasis was on "run prevention " Did anyone think to tell the players they didn't mean the offense

Hard to leave people on base when OBP is 29th and no one is ever on base.
Listening to Evan and Tiki this morning at 10am. It paints an awfully bleak picture about the roster construction. $100M tied up on players who are either no on the team anymore, or players on the team who are trash. Stearns seat must be getting warm if this season goes to hell and Nimmo, Alonso, and even McNeil have decent years. Manaea is getting $25M this year... to be a long reliever. Frankie Montas is getting $17M this year to be off the team. If you peel it back... it is awful awful awful roster construction.
Hope nobody in the Mets organization is celebrating OBP. That's like a football team celebrating that they gained more yards than their opponent, but lost 49-0 because they never made it to the end zone and/or had multiple turnovers.

ok- so the Dodgers destroyed us...Our goal was to become better than the Dodgers. I did say I give Stearns a break if we won the series.
So- here is the breakdown for the Stearns fanboys
I am going to say he made a good trade to get Robert Jr. so- he gets to stand on that and the Peralta move is good as well. But - he made it clear he was going to be more financially responsible, get rid of players that were not performing and run prevention.
*He gave away 42m to worthless pitchers
* The players currently considered our starters on the field(which includes Soto) Alvarez(2.4m), Polanco(17m) Semiem(26 mil plus 5.7M we are paying McNeil) Bichette(42m) Lindor(34m) Soto(62m plus 5m for Nimmo) Robert(20m) Benge( 780k) and williams as the closer(17m) comes out to about $232m
Last year team and what we would have paid them this year on the 2026 contract - Alvarez, Pete(21m) McNeil(15m), Baty(800k), Lindor(34m) Nimmo(20.5m), Robert(kept him on both teams as it was a good trade), Soto, Diaz(17m)
comes out to about $192 mil
over the next few years, that changes as Bo most likely leaves and Alonso and Diaz contracts are much higher in 2027.
But for 2026- we paid 40 million more to be much worse.
* Get rid of players that didn't perform- and that is supposedly Alonso, Nimmo, Diaz - they were players that did perform. Even McNeil- a guy that plays so many positions and while not a great fielder- he was pretty good at each one.
* Run prevention- obviously Semiem is an improvement - We have had really good defense in CF already- Robert is just better offensively. But overall- the infield defense really isnt better as a whole and neither if the OF. Give me all the advance metrics you want but the eyeballs don't lie.
How is anyone defending this guy?

Just trying to find an advanced metric 90% of people that have followed MLB for decades and the very many great MLB players don’t care about, to prove Stearns is still boy genius and our eyes are all lying to us.
Over the last eight games, Mets have scored 12 runs. Take away one six run outburst (which they lost 11-6) and that's six runs in seven games. Less than one run per game.
Can we agree that this level of futility is not sustainable? That Lindor will hit? That Bichette will hit? That Polanco will hit? That Soto will return, and will hit? (I admit I am unsure about Semien and Benge.)
I think there is a good chance that this year's Met team will be less offensively prolific than last year. They gave up a lot of slug in Alonso and Nimmo, and I am not sure they recouped it elsewhere. But that said, I do believe they will hit enough to contend - if the pitching holds up, which I think it will.

That type of thing doesn't impress me. I am more concerned with hustle on the field WHILE THE BALL IS IN PLAY, which Nimmo did NOT always do. Not to single him out, as he was hardly alone in that.

Padres selling for $3.9 billion. Mets went for $2.4 when Cohen bought the team. Valuations rose quickly and yet the owners are going to cry poverty at the end of the season.
Yes they will. They will show massive income statement losses. Reportedly the 30 franchises had a combined net loss of $1.8 billion. A lot of this was caused by the collapse of local TV rights.
MLB will talk net income. MLBPA will talk capital appreciation.
