This is one of the lowest points we have had as a program, and we are still waiting to hit bottom. During fallout from probation, there was light at the end of the tunnel. We found a winning coach and had players who played hard. Now, we are dealing with wholesale corruption from Capilouto and the BOT on down, and nobody in the administration has answers. This upcoming season is going to test the fan base in ways that we haven't had to deal with.
At least we have each other.

The University of Kentucky should never have an issue fielding a top of the line basketball team in an era where you can pay players. It’s almost an impossible thing to mess up. Any real head coach could do this easily.

I was super disappointed when I heard that he was the first PG we contacted. Or, the first to visit, anyway. As has been mentioned, Diallo doesn’t fit Pope’s system at all. You’d think this past season full of square pegs in round holes would’ve brought him back to reality. But, this offseason has been a repeat of last year.
He’s not prioritizing shooting or guys who even fit the system. He’s a Rhodes Scholar & he can’t identify the basic traits to maximize the potential of his system. All the scoring droughts this season would’ve given me PTSD as coach & if anything, I’d overcompensate trying to correct it.
But, no, he wants more of it. Freeman isn’t a fit, either. Great player. But, good luck with spacing if he & Moreno are your 4 & 5. And, spacing is kind of important in Pope’s offense. Throw in Diallo at PG & this past season will look like the Showtime Lakers in comparison.
I seriously don’t understand what he’s doing. His offense is totally reliant on perimeter shooting & ball movement, yet, we had next to no shooting, whatsoever, this year & it’s looking like next year will be the same. Like going into this past season with one legit PG after suffering thru Butler’s injuries the season prior. How does that happen at this level?! I want to run a system built on spacing, passing, shooting & cutting, but, let’s target some low IQ, unskilled guys who can’t walk & chew gum & see what happens.
The staff (really, the head doofus), has no soft skills - people skills, personality, executive presence -- none of that.
